ChapterEight: Parisian
September 2155
Back in Parisian, Liam and Lance enter the school’s auditorium. The headmaster announced that all students and faculty must attend a mandatory school assembly. As the twins sit in their seats, Liam sees Kylie at a distance. She was with her cheer squad, smiling with her mouth closed. She looked like she was just listening to the girls talking about any deductions they received.
To Liam, Kylie always seemed different. Well, everyone else noticed her difference too, but she stood out to Liam the most. She was as beautiful as teenage Gen-Mod girl, and full of physical perfection. Yet, she was quiet. She didn’t talk much as all the other girls did. She only talked when she had to, like for cheer practices as she was the captain. Other than that, she would just give a polite smile, and stay silent.
Then Liam noticed something unusual on her: She had a faint purple bruise on her jaw, and had white bandages on the tips of her fingernails. Yet, she was acting as her normal self. Gen-Mods heal rather quickly, but Kylie? She was healing slowly, as if she was a Normal. Liam tried to deduce her, but the only thing he got was a mental brick wall blocking him from her.
Lance poked on Liam’s arm, and mindlinked, Pay attention, Lover-Boy. The headmaster is about to speak!
The headmaster walks up onto the stage. He announced: “A few days ago, the newly-formed United Intergalactic Nations have announced that the Normals living underground on Earth will be transplanted here on GH569. They’ll be living in the Six City-States. They will not be living in the Native cities for their safety. The first wave of transplants will be arriving here within a few weeks. Some of them will include people your age. The school has been trying to get everything ready as fast as possible. Once these people begin their classes here, please respect them. Do not bully them. Do not harm them. They are Normals. Their abilities are very limited, and they’re not as invincible as we Gen-Mods are. So please be kind and gentle with the Normals. You are also not allowed to lure your new Normal students out to the city fence. They must never venture outside the city. Thank you. You may go to your classes.”
With that, both of the students and the faculty got up and walked out of the auditorium. Liam pushed through the crowd of people to get to Kylie. He finally reached her, and grabbed her wrist. She turned to face him, and asked, “What is it?”
Liam blushed, and asked nervously, “Um, how are you doing?”
Kylie gave a polite, closed-mouth smile, and replied, “I’m doing well, thank you.”
They stood there awkwardly for a good second or two. Then Lance pulled Liam away from Kylie. Liam groaned in annoyance, “Why’d you pull me away from her?”
Lance replied, “We have to get to class. That simple.”
Liam sighed, and rolled his eyes. His mind was still on Kylie. She seemed to intrigue him more and more every second of his life. Yet, he can’t get into her head. She’ll always be a mystery to him.
It was now late afternoon. Liam and Lance just got out of basketball practice. Liam asked Lance as they got into their car, “Have you ever wondered what is outside the city fence?”832Please respect copyright.PENANAW9ukyQm5Jr
Lance replied with a short “Nope.”
Liam sighed, “Seriously, you’re always so serious! You always pull me away from that beautiful and mysterious Kylie. You never wonder what is outside the fence. You never even wonder what life is like in the Native cities!”
Lance grumbled, “Just shut up. You better not do anything stupid.”
Liam glared at him, and huffed. He then blocked his “mind-feed” from Lance as he came up with an idea.
It’s now late at night. Liam stared at the ceiling of his room that he shared with Lance. He could hear Lance snoring loudly as he slept deeply. Liam used this window of opportunity that he had. He slowly and quietly got out of his bed. He crept up to his desk, and grabbed the car keys. The world in GH569 wasn’t as advanced as on the Earth surface, but much more advanced than the underground world on Earth.
Liam quietly climbed out of the window, and walked up to his car. He got in, and soon drove off the driveway. He was always a curious boy. Ever since he was little he wanted to see the world outside the fence. Of course, he’s been to the entertainment hub for musicals and music videos known as New Yorkshire. He’s been to the classy and wealthy city of Landon. It was also the government center for the King of the Six City-States. The King was actually a descendent of the youngest cousin of then King George VII of Britain. There was also a Prime Minister of the Six City-States. Other than that, Liam mainly stayed within Parisian.
He knew there was no way outside the city unless one were to take the commuter trains, but the trains are only connected to the other Six City-States. The government did its’ best to keep both the Gen-Mods and the Natives separate and isolated from each other. Supposedly it’s to keep the Natives “safe” from the Gen-Mods, but not many people knew what that meant. Besides, anyone who’s not in the military knew what the Natives even look like. Oh, everyone was aware that were people living on GH569 before the Gen-Mods landed, but that was it.
For Liam, he always wanted to see what a Native really looked like. He couldn’t deduce what their appearance were, as if he would hit a brick wall. Lately, he has been hitting mental walls. Every time he would get some kind of feeling, he wouldn’t be able to deduce it. Something was blocking him, but he couldn’t figure out what it is, and why it is happening.
After driving around for what seemed like an hour or two, he was finally outside the city. He saw a fence a distance. The outskirts of the city were used for farmland, and possible expansion. He eventually had to stop as the road had just ended. He got out of the car, and walked up to the fence.
The fence was very high. It was almost as high as one of the tallest skyscrapers on the planet. There was a walkway on the top of the fence, but that was used only by the military in case of an invasion were to happen. Nothing like that has happened.
Liam remembered the lesson on why the fence was built: There were tribes of Natives living in the deep forests. When the cities were being built, the government had to push the tribes far into the forests. The Natives in their own cities either took some of the Forest Tribes into their cities, or cast them even further into the woods. Not much is known about the Forest Tribes other than that they’re also Natives.
Liam walked up to the fence. It was the first time he saw the fence up close and personal. He didn’t touch the fence as he wasn’t sure if it was electrical or not. He then peered through the wires, and saw the forest nearby. The trees were tall, very similar to the trees he would see in his Earth History books. There were so many of them.
As he continued looking at the forests, he heard growls coming from the forests. He wasn’t sure what was making that sound, but the only think of was this: The Forest Natives.
