ChapterTwo-Teen SuperStars
September 8th, 2004
It was the next day. Alyson and Bailey just arrived at the high school when they saw their clique at a bulletin board. Alyson asked, “What’s going on?”
Libby replied,“There’s this poster for a teen idol TV search. It’s called New England’s Teen SuperStar.”
“Is it a spin-off of that New England Idol show?”
Stacie commented, “Yeah, but of course American Idol is better.”
“We need to do research on this show," Kat suggested.
Alyson asked, “When is it airing?”
Libby answered, “They’re holding auditions first. The first audition is here in Boston.”
So the Pink Clique (the name of Alyson’s clique) went to the school’s library to go on the computers. The found the website for New England’s Teen SuperStar. They read the rules. Like the predecessor, New England’s Pop SuperStar (a show based off of American Idol), it was reality TV search for a pop singer; viewers vote for their favorite; and the winner gets signed onto Boston’s known record label, Q Division Records, and work with the best producers and nightclub DJs in all of Boston.
Unlike NEPS, the age group is 12-17 (NEPS is 18-25); the show allows groups, but only with 4 people being the maximum; and the winners must be go to their high school for their senior year.
Libby suggested excitedly, “We should form a girl-band!”
“But there can only be, at most, 4 people. Not 6 people,” Bailey cautioned.
Melissa tells her, “Then you should be a soloist. You’re really good.”
Stacie asks Alyson “How bout you, Aly?”
Alyson answered, “I don’t know. I’m more of a dancer than a singer.”
Alyson has had intensive dance training before she got into cheerleading.
Bailey said, “Aly, you’re pretty good! Kind of like Britney Spears.”
The other Pink girls were begging Alyson to sing, so she decided to go for it. She took out her iPOD, put on Britney Spears’ song, Overprotective. She danced and sang in the library. The students were impressed, while the librarians weren’t.
It’s now lunchtime. As the Pink Clique sat down, Andrew approached Alyson. She asked with irritation in ver voice, “What is it, Andrew?”
Andrew said, “I saw you singing and dancing in the library.”
“Let me guess, I sucked, right?”
Andrew answered with irritation in his voice, “I was gonna say you were great, and you reminded me of Britney Spears.”
Alyson scoffed, “Yeah, you thought I was good.”
“You always thought I hated you. Well, you know what? I don’t!”
“Oh, so you like me?”
Andrew stammered, and then sadly stared at Alyson. He tells her quietly and sadly, “You were good. That’s all I wanted to say.”
Then Andrew walked back to his table. Stacie tells Alyson, “Aly, I think he likes you.”
Alyson didn’t respond. She just stared at Andrew. Andrew exchanged a stare, but went back to talking to his friends and Amanda.
It’s now late afternoon. Alyson was Bailey’s house. Justin was at football tryouts. Bailey asked Alyson, “Do you like Andrew? Like, ‘like’ like him?”
Alyson answered, “Bay, you know I always liked him.”
“Then why can’t you get along with him?”
“I don’t care how popular he is, he’s still a jerk. He humiliated me back in fifth grade. Yes, I know we moved on. Still, I'm surprised he’s gotten nicer lately, but at the same still a bully.”
“At least he doesn’t bully the girls. He stopped doing that in fourth grade.”
“Yeah. Are you gonna audition for that New England teen idol show?”
“I don’t know. I wanna be in a band, something like the A*Teens.”
“Yeah me too, but more like S Club 8. I know! Why don’t we form a band? With you, me, Justin, and Ethan?”
Bailey thought about, then smiled, “I like it. We’ll tell Justin and Ethan tomorrow.”
