With only his scholarship in hand, Arlan left his home country to school in Taiwan for college. There, he discovers what it means to miss his family, to fail, to struggle, to work, to tolerate stabbing words, and even at times, hate himself. One day, as he practice his Mandarin beside the college's lake, a tall Taiwanese boy loomed over and corrected his pronunciation.
