Daniel Wright, age twelve, watched the clock with rapt attention. Just a few more minutes. Then he would be able to summon his Familiar, who was hopefully strong, and take his revenge. Day after day he would go to school only to be laughed at, for his family was the lowliest of the low. The best Familiar anyone in the Wright family had summoned was a tabby cat. Daniel didn't have anything against house cats, he was actually quite fond of them, but when your neighbors had a three headed fire breathing serpent, it was hard to look on the bright side. In most families, if a kid summoned something as weak as a tabby cat they were shunned. Not in the Wright family, they were honored. 331Please respect copyright.PENANAjYD49WiJKZ
"Daniel! Get out here, it's almost time for the Summoning!" Sparing a glance at the clock as he rushed out the door, he saw it was two minutes 'till twelve. He could already feel the magic stirring in his blood. He entered his garden in the backyard where his whole family was gathered. There were a lot of Wrights. All of their Familiars were by their sides, not one of them reaching past Daniel's waist, some were being carried in fish bowls because...fish. Seeing all of those truly pathetic Familiars made him begin to understand why people made fun of his family. But it didn't matter why they did it. He would get his revenge.
Moving to the center of the garden where tulips bloomed in a circle around a slap of stone, Daniel braced himself. Everyone got quiet as they waited for the final seconds until the Summoning would be upon them. Each and every time was a sight to behold, no matter the Familiar (although it did make it even more marvelous if it was a powerful one). A spark of magic suddenly burst through him, spreading through his blood faster than he could track. It was accompanied by a stab of pain that tore through his mind. He had heard of what it would be like: first the magic that would be used to summon the Familiar, then the pain as the summoner was used as a host to bring the Familiar into the mortal realm. The more powerful the pain, the more spectacular the Familiar. And oh boy, the pain was excruciating. All of his nerves seemed to be ripped open, his organs slashed. For a horrible, terrible moment Daniel thought he wasn't going to make it. It wasn't unheard of -- if the Familiar was too strong for the summoner, it could tear their very soul apart. As if by some miracle, the pain started to fade, signaling it was almost time for the Familiar to make an entrance. Daniel felt his Familiar's mind tether itself to his own, tying him together for eternity. Once bonded there was no undoing it. It could be a blessing or a curse, if your Familiar died, so did you. Using the remains of his strength, Daniel at last fully summoned his Familiar.
An earth shattering roar shook the ground, sending several people to the their knees. Smoky mist had quickly covered the area, shrouding everything from sight. A massive reptilian body could be seen winding through it, heading straight towards Daniel. His heart beat in a mad gallop in his chest, threatening to explode but he held firm and didn't back away. Showing weakness could end fatally, and not for Daniel. If the Familiar found its master to be weak of mind it wouldn't listen to anything they said and go on a rampage, killing anything in its path. If it was strong enough that is. Which this Familiar seemed to be. The creature reached Daniel, and from the smoke emerged a long, scaly snout, lips pulled back to reveal dagger like teeth. The rest of the head soon followed revealing a pair of blood red eyes. They sent chills down his spine. The eyes promised death to any who came near. All, of course, save its master. It stood there for a moment assessing, calculating.
Daniel became so absorbed within its eyes he didn't notice the tail until it was too late. It wrapped around his waist and pulled him to the dragon, all within the span of a second. Daniel suddenly became a lot less sure that it wouldn't kill him. But he needn't have worried, the beast only wanted a closer look. So he took that time to examine it right back. The dragon's scales were an inky black, perfect for midnight raids, and looked harder than diamonds. The realization came to Daniel when he noticed it's claws, long and sharp; he had done it! He, Daniel Wright, had summoned a dragon. It was one of the rarest Familiars in the world, only three or four had ever been summoned. A wicked smile graced his lips as he thought of his classmates reaction, of his village's reaction. All of the taunts and sneers would be revenged. He would be the one laughing as they all burned.
As if reading his thoughts, which it very well could have, the dragon let out a bloodcurdling roar and beat its mighty wings until it rose into the air, Daniel still in its grip. However he was unsatisfied with being carried around like luggage so in a voice still full of malice from his unsettling thoughts demanded, "Place me on your back, dragon." It obeyed and placed him behind one of the foot long spikes along his spine. The wind rushed around them, the ground so far down. The village not far away. It wasn't too long until the first scream was heard. 331Please respect copyright.PENANAp6DZurVgGK
Breathing down blue flames, the dragon guided by its master, reined havoc on the people who dared treat him and his family with disdain. The people who wouldn't spare a single bread crumb for the starving kids of the Wrights. All the while, as houses burned, Daniel was howling with laughter, finding the whole affair rather amusing. Everyone was running around like little ants, some of them flamed and some were stomped on. Not one was left.
