I woke up as soon as the rising sun peeped it's head from beneath the mountains. I had chores to do, and the sooner I'm done with them, the fewer smacks I get from Babi's broom.
I stumbled out of bed and landed on the icy cold floor. I hated when the start of winter started it was just too cold for me, and I ended up shivering throughout my chores. I pulled on my slippers and rushed into the washroom. To my disappointment, I had to bathe in the frigid cold water this morning since Mother forgot to heat up water last night. It took me awhile to settle into the water and then jump right back out and find some new clothes.
By the time, I had my coat on and my boots I had stumbled into knee deep snow (that I'm obviously going to have to dig out). I had begun to stomp my through the snow when I heard the thundering hooves of the hunters' horses, and I knew then my father was back.
I ran (or less stumbled) through the rigid like snow, until I made my way to the men's sleighs, which were full of game that could last us multiple winters. The men looked really proud as they rolled in with fur, fish, land roamers, and even livestock. I weaved my way around all of them, only eager to meet my father.
I finally spotted his sleigh and ran over to it and hopped on. On the other side of the sleigh was my father, who was unpacking nets of fish that had been caught.
"Papa! You're back! What did get?" I asked while jumping up and down on the sleigh. My father looked at me and smiled.
"A lot of things Zax, but you probably won't get them if you don't stop jumping on my sleigh," He warned, but his tone spoke other wise. He caught me into a warm embrace and settled me onto the floor.
"Help me unpack these things, so we store them in the cooler." He stated and heaved a package of salted meat from the sleigh and gave it to me. I sunk under the weight of the meat but hid the fact and continued to carry the package to the cooler.
"Oh and Zax." My father called. "I have a little gift for you, so come and get it once you're done with your chores".
I smiled back at him and headed to the cooler with a new bounce on my heels. I couldn't wait till I got my present.
