Alexander MacWatters’ POV263Please respect copyright.PENANAmYYqUNqr4J
As I went to stand up and make sure that everyone’s attention was on me, I looked at Azalea who was sitting next to me. I smiled like a mad man in love.
“well, where to begin,” I said as I looked around the table.
“at the beginning, dumbass,” Brad commented before everyone laughed.
“well, I first met Azalea was on campus, she was swimming beautifully in the water. She did not even know that I was watching her,” I started.
“creep,” someone shouted. It was Brad.
“then, she drowned. I was there to help her and I was stunned that I have laid my eyes on the most beautiful woman that I can ever saw in my life. I knew that she was the one. So, I asked her out and fortunately for me, she said yes,” I said as I smiled. A few waves of laughter broke the silence before they died and I continued.
“We went to a few dates before I proposed to her in front of her family. They were anticipating that Azalea might say no, I mean, I was not a big of a catch,” I chuckled.
“Liar!” Someone shouted. I smiled before I offered my hand to Lea. Thankfully, she played along with my facade.
“Lea, my darling, the answer that you gave me on the day that I proposed to you made my heart bleed with love and for that, I will vow to you faithfully and will only spend my time with you in my entire life,” I said as I was looking at her. She was smiling but I can sense that she was narrowing her eyes at me.
“so, I wanted to ask you again in front of everyone here,” I said as I kneeled to her.
“will you give me the honor of being my wife?” I said as I was holding her hands. She played along and I can see that she was getting better at acting.
“yes, yes, yes. Oh yes, Alex. For a thousand times,” she said before I got up and kissed her. It was impulsive and we’re in the moment to make sure that it was not a lie after all and not a contract that binds us.
I feel her lips on mine and she was responding to my kiss. I cannot sense anyone else in the room as I was so focused on Lea that I hated when we broke the kiss when everyone was shouting.
“way to go, MacWatters!” Brad shouted before he went to pat me on the back. I thanked him as he hugged Lea as well. I was happy. Everyone was happy and I think my mum bought our story as she was hugging Lea and Lea was awkwardly being hugged by my mum.
“so, in a pool, eh?” Brad asked me as we were sitting at an open bar. I looked back at Lea as she was talking with some of my mum’s friends.
“Yeah, I know. How ironic,” I said as I took a sip of my beer. The dinner was still there but we have moved toward the ballroom again. And I think my mother has another plan for us.
“yeah, with you being the Water Elemental and all. I think it was fate,” brad said as he took a sip of his whiskey. I laughed.
“what’s so funny?” He asked me as I was looking at him. He was distraught and he was not having the best sleep.
“oh, my god. Did you slept with someone?” I asked Brad. He stammered before the tip of his ears were red. Yup, he did.
“you know the deal, right? No sex until we found the ONE,” I told him. He opened his mouth to say something but then closed it.
“what if the gods bring doom upon us, Brad? And Cam and Dylan. And me! I just found my bride,” I hissed at him. He sighed before he was rubbing his face.
“look, it’s not what you think, I—“
“then, what do I think? hmm? Care to explain?” I asked him as his lips were in a thin line.
“I met someone and our kind of accidentally married if you know what I mean,” he said as he was rubbing his neck.
“what?” I asked him as I did not quite catch his statement.
“Yeah, I’m married. I know it’s weird,” he said as he looked at me. I narrowed my eyes at him before I sighed.
“Okay, what’s her name?” I asked him as he coughed on his drink.
“Sorry?” He asked me as I just asked him the stupidest question ever. I smirked at him before patting on his back.
“come on, you said that you were married and all, but you don’t know her name?” I joked at him as Brad was wiping his shirt.
“Barbara,” he mumbled.
“I’m sorry, did you say something?” I said as I was trying to joke with him.
“barbara. I met at one of my excavation sites,” he said as he turned toward me, scowling I smiled.
“well, I would like to meet her someday. She seems—“
“nice?”
“cool. She could tame you into a marriage,” I added.
“well, you should have known the rest of the story as well,” he mumbled before he went out of the way to go to the dance floor but Brad did not dance. I might as well took Lea toward the dance floor. It’s time to show more of my charm to her.
Azalea Johnson’s POV
I was talking to Alex’s mum and her friends. They asked me what I do and how do I spend my time when I was not with Alex.
“so, you’re saying you’re an oceanographer? What does that mean?” One of the ladies asked me. I smiled at her.
“well, I was a scientist that focuses on maintaining and conserving the ecosystem of the ocean and its aquatic lives. I research so that new laws can be improved and how to handle the new issues if they ever happened in the future,” I said as I took a sip of my champagne. I don’t dare to indulge in wine more than I should as I know that Alex was not around and I was all alone here.
“well, she just like Alex, except that he teaches and you, went out on the field, is the right term they used. ah, young love. How lovely,” his mother said, that she insisted me to call Ma. I smiled at her and nodded.
“exactly,” I said before the ladies turned to look behind me.
“good evening, ladies. Mind if I steal her for a song?” Alex’s voice filled my eardrum before I turned to look at him. He was devilishly handsome even after he had run his fingers through his hair a couple of times. I stared at him as he offered me his hand.
“if the lady in question would like to dance with me?” He said as he extended his hand at me. The ladies were swooned by his charisma. I think I was the same but I tried to keep a stoic face as I smiled at him.
“certainly,” I said as I put my champagne down and I took his hand. Electric ran through our blood that made me shiver in a good way. He pulled me by the waist before he directed me toward the dance floor.
“good job tonight,” he whispered to me as if he was talking sweetly to me, but I know better.
“well, I need that funding. besides, I was once in a drama club and I performed theatre a couple of times. It’s no big deal,” I said as I put my right hand in his left and my left on his shoulder. He drew me closer as he put his hand on the lower back and the song was playing in the background.
“I thought we could go home now but I wanted to show you around a couple more. And I heard that the director of the National Science funding was here as well,” he said as he spins me around. I did not catch that at first but then the funding word made it all clear.
“you want me to introduce to him?” I asked him. He laughed.
“not him, her,” he corrected me. I arched my eyebrows. I don’t know that the director was a woman.
“would you like to? I mean I can if you wanted to because of she and me—“
“had a history together?” I joked as I knew he would not have that. But his silence was just confirming the statement that I just made.
“oh, sorry. I did not mean to—“
“no, it’s fine. I know that you might think I got it because of her and me—“
“no, Alex. I don’t think you in that way. I was just guessing, did not mean to be a bullseye,” I said as I chuckled nervously. He smiled before he spins me out and pulled me into his arms again. I was dancing with my back to his front as he was swaying us to the sides.
“I have been meaning to tell you all night long. You look so ravishing, my darling,” he whispered huskily as he nuzzled my ear. I felt blush crept on my face.
“what do you mean? You just said that to make me feel better. You were supposed to be my fiancée,” I whispered back, can’t help thinking that it was just for show.
“well, if you don’t feel the evidence yet, I don’t know anything else to convince you, my love,” he said huskily before he twirled me around and I was gasping as my hands were on his chest.
“Let’s go,” he said as he pulled me toward the exit.
