(this is a little song that helped inspire this story) :)
They stared up at the simple cream colored apartment building, the girl pointing at a particular space.
"There it is. My little window, my little fenêtre." The girl says, brushing aside her tangled mass of brown hair.
The boy, seeking confirmation asks, "The one with the twinkly white christmas lights?"
"Mhmm. Just the one." She looks up at it a little dreamily.
"I like it." He asserts with a big smile.
Giving a soft, happy sigh, the girl crouches to sit on the empty lane dividing her building from the next.
The boy follows suit.
They both lay back, seeking something in the stars. Something beyond their mortal thinking, and mortal sight.
Like a caress to the gentle Summer breeze, she whispers, "I love this."
He laughs his sweet, addicting laugh. A silhouette of a laugh. "Love what?"
"My window, this street, these stars," She pauses. "You."
Daring a glance over, the boy watches as her cheeks are painted a dusty rose pink, and he knows it's not from the calm July heat.
"I love you too." He bluntly states, a confident surety accompanying his words.
Her cheeks are now pinched with a lovely, bashful red.
Taking her hand, he holds it close to him as if she might take her words back.
The girl stirs.
He notices her moving closer.
Expecting her to settle back down, he chooses to keep looking on at the sky.
The girl bends down and presses a promise to his cheek with her lips. A gentle kiss holding the mysteries and meanings of life.
His eyes widen from surprise, and as she they look into each other's eyes, a silent little oath is passed between them, that they will always cherish each other and the stars that watch over them every day.
It's his turn to be coated in a rosy blush.
