"Get up" He instructs me, standing as straight as a ruler. I stand, In my black pajamas every Vampire in training wears. "Go on, get your uniform on" I rushed past him toward the wards closet, filled with dozens of different uniforms. I walked to my little section, and grabbed my armored uniform for patrolling. I turned around to look at the gloomy room. Spotless as always, a tall, towering roof above us, looking down at us, an old chandelier hanging from the middle, and 5 bunkbeds placed evenly in two rows. My father has already left from the tall, slim door that leads to the corridor, filled with even more rooms with young Vampires. I strut to a door to the left of me, and that's the changing room. I open it, and swing the door shut as I walk in. I light a candle, and it illuminates the small closet. Nothing in there, but a clothing rack, a mirror, and a hairbrush balancing on a tiny ledge. I brush my long, sleek black hair and pull it into a ponytail, showing more of my pale complexion. My eyes, a depressing shade of blue. I open my mouth to see my gleaming fangs. They aren't that sharp. I run my tongue over my teeth. Smooth and wet, as the way it should be. I slide off my pajamas and slip on the armored camisole, the shiny metal gleaming in the dim light. Then the armored slacks, the metal gleaming as well. Almost my entire body was covered in metal, but it was quite light, actually. I pull the string and go into the room once again, my peers not even close to getting up. I march past them, and walk out the tall lanky door. The Slim hall had Spears lining the inside, for morning patrols. I grab mine, and walk back into my section. I am the captain of this troop, troop A, and I'm supposed to wake them up (troop A) and go on a patrol. Rose, the blood leader (a blood is all the troops in this section, which is 2) and she's supposed to wake us up. But she doesn't. She's never even here. I wake up at 5 and wakes everyone up to be prepared by 6. I walk to Althea, my second in command of this troop, and wake her up. I always have to wake the other captains at this time, so they have time to get ready and wake up their troop. I push her around, trying to wake her up. "Althea, Get up." "Huh? Oh! It's time?" She asks, springing to her feet. I nod, and she rushes toward her section in the wardrobe. I turn around, and go to troop B's door. I don't even knock, I just go in. Their room is just like ours. I walk over to Charis' bed, and push her around as well. I do this to every leader, until they all grab their spears, and bang them on the ground, shouting to get their toop up. Then the noise comes in. I always stay at the end of the hall, waiting to do Rose's job. As I look at the pendulum, swinging back and forth, I hear it strike 6. I bang my spear on the ground. "Patrol is in effect! Line up!" I commanded as they all marched out and grabbed their spears. The Orchestra of feet pounding on dark wood floors made it impossible to even think without being interrupted. Once they were organized, I shouted my orders. "A!" "Ready!" Althea replied.
"B!" "Ready." Charis replied
"C!" "Ready!" Evadne replied.
"D!" "Ready." Hyacinth replied.
I never liked Hyacinth.

"A! You take main corridor. B! You take the West wing. C! Take East wing! D! Take the outside route! I'll be inspecting the top floor! Go!" They all marched to their positions and inspected each wall. We were always told to be cautious, humans could find their way through any crack. I look and see the two other bloods doors. One patrols the exterior of the castle itself, while the other patrols fences and outer defenses. I walk through the main hall and to the main corridor, two staircases filling the area. I walk up the left one and walk to a spot on the wall. It's the dumbwaiter, and it leads to the second floor. I look around. Nobody's watching. I climb in, and hoist myself up to the second floor. It's abandoned. Nobody likes going up here. Our blood is on the main level, and we work on up. I usually tell them I'll do the top floor all on my own, because they won't do a good job anyway. The second blood works downward, in the cellars. I look at all the dust piling on the wooden chairs. I move the curtains out of the way, to let some light in. We are not allergic to sun, unlike popular belief. We just don't tan easily, and we prefer the darkness. I brush off some dust from a wall, and I see some spiders. Wolf Spiders. Beautiful creatures. I don't know how they survived here, though. I reach my hand up, and let one crawl on my palm. "It takes real courage to reach a hand up to a spider."
