"Welcome to the brigade, soldier." The gamma says. I have managed thus far to avoid my father. I have to blend in to the background, until the day comes when I must rise up.
"Thank you, Gamma. I won't let you down. When do I get to fight?" I ask eager to fight for my status.
"You train first, Joey may have taught you well, but you will go through the same training regmine as my soldiers." He commanded. I nodded understanding that this is what is required of me. Joey would expect nothing less, but the obedience of a soldier.
"Yes, sir. Where do I go?" I asked and he pointed to the large door marked gymnasium. I nod and run to the room. There are dozens of people running and lifting things. I saw Charles who gave me a side eye.
"Clarke, get over here. I'm going to run you. You shouldn't be here, you're a girl we know nothing about." Charles called me. I understand his fret. I am the daughter of the former Beta. I am strong, confident, and I know how to fight, If I wanted to I could challenge him for his position, once Zale comes of age. I do plan on challenging someone, but not him. I may just make him my Beta, if he trains me well enough.
"You're right. All you know is that I suddenly showed up out of nowhere. My father is Joey. Part of his blood runs through my veins." I tell him. It wasn't a lie, Joey is my cousin, so we share blood.
"Get out of here." He growls.
"Look I am here to get some training. I know you feel threatened by me, but I will give you my word that I will not challenge you for your position as a Beta. Right now, I only want to be the best warrior I can be, so will you train me?" I asked him. One thing I learned from some of the more entertaining books I have read is that men love it when they can teach a woman how to do something. Its almost a weakness.
"Alright. Don't disobey me though. Treat me like you would a beta." He says. I am not Alpha yet, so respect is my goal.
"Yes, sir," I mockingly salute.
He cracks a smile and then says, "On the treadmill! I want to see how long you can last before you give out. No food, but you get one bottle of water. If you were out in the wilderness and you only had a little bit of water how long would you survive?"
I begin running as he turns up the speed. I ran for hours. Eventually people started to take notice. It got late into the night and Charles sat in a chair waiting for me to finally give out. I kept running. I had so much frustration towards my father and my mother. I needed to let everything out so I could remain calm as I have been.
I felt sleep wanting to overtake me by the morning when people were just beginning to stretch. I kept running. Charles got up and turned the speed up. I had to run 100 mph if I wanted to stay on the treadmill. This was excrutiating, but I had ran this fast before on a really good day. I pushed my self further, until Joey came in and glared at Charles. I maintained a steady run as I listened in on the conversation.
"Charles, she's only 16 why are you pushing her this hard. I have watched your trainings go and you don't put them through this!!" Joey growled.
"I wanted to see how far she can be pushed Joey. If the day comes where she decides to run away or betrays the pack and needs to be interrogated, I need to know how far her will power extends. I know how the pack trained us and how far many of us can go based on our personalities. We don't know your daughter or how far he can go before she gives out. If for some reason she decides to run then we also know how far she can get before she stops to rest." Charles defended.
Joey thought it over for a second and then opened up with, "I taught my daughter everything she knows. I also taught her about loyalty and honor. Something you may be lacking." I wanted to step in, but my momentum kept me going.
"Dena, stop....
"Keep going!! That's an order"
They contradicted each other. Everything in me was telling me to listen to Joey. He's the person I trust the most, but I knew that i had to keep going. I am not the little girl that needs her 'dad'. I am the warrior that will rise to the top.
"She follows orders, I'll give you that Joey," Charles says.
"I am her father. She should be following my orders." Joey growled. I get why he was hurt. Losing control is never easy, but I need to listen to my trainer.
"I her trainer. She will be taught by me." Charles stated as a matter of fact.
"Not any longer Charlie. I believe that I may have my son's future Gamma though. I will train this woman. Joey I will meet with you and your daughter later. Until then though she can keep running. She can decide when she is done." A new voice spoke. I dared not look that way. I felt the power from where I ran. It was my father. Blood recognizes blood. I picked up speed a few hours later and I was fuming. I was running 120 mph. I couldn't stop. I began to slow down as the night fell. The next morning I had finally managed to get down to 10 mph. I slowed down to a stop within the next hour. Joey was there with a bag of burritos and a gallon of water. We went home and sat down.
"Why didn't you stop when your father told you that you could?" Joey asked.
"I needed to progress down. I was going really fast." I say as I tear into the burritos. I finish the burritos as Joey goes through one of his age old lectures that I learned to tune out. I had a meeting with my father at midday tomorrow and I was curios as to what he would say. Only time would tell.289Please respect copyright.PENANAkuN8jLyzzO
