T-minus 30 minutes until Wakening. Me and my men were scouting the inner perimeter to make sure that nothing would threaten the Fable units that were underway there. Suddenly, red lights started flashing throughout the military complex, and several other platoons ran past us towards the Wakening Sector. I thought we had a few escaped myths on the loose until I looked at the weaponry that the platoon was armed with. They had B5-ARBLs which was odd because we only used those if there were demons in the vicinity. Then I put two and two together; the anti-demonic weapons, the red blaring lights. It could only mean one thing; demons were in the complex.
“Hey, we should follow them to give support,” someone shouted. This snapped me out of my reverie as I made a split second decision
“Move out! Be ready for anything. Top priority; keep the Fable units alive. Understood?”
“Yes, sir!” they replied, getting their AL25s out and loading them. We ran after the other platoons. After a few minutes we walked into the room and what we saw made me reel. There was blood everywhere; clumps of hair and disemboweled appendages lay scattered throughout the room. Worst of all was that the head of each soldier was impaled on a banner held by a demon in the very middle of a whole regiment of L5s along with a small squad L7. They turned to us, sadistic smiles creep along their faces as they readied their spears and rusty halberds.
“Wendigo Sir, what do we do now?” The soldier’s voice was shaking with fear.
“Like I said before, we defend the Fable’s units until they wake. Now, try and find a lance. They work much better against these assholes than our current weaponry,” I said as I pulled out Terror, clicking the safety off for the assault carbine. I started to walk towards the regiment of demons, giving my men time to find weapons and munitions. The first demon, wielding two battle-axes, stepped up to face me. He swung at me with both weapons; the attack resembled the shearing action of scissors. I jumped off the back of my heels and landed behind the demon. Pulling out a combat knife, I jabbed it into the back of the demon’s head. As I dug deeper, I felt the slight barrier of the skull and the mushy substance of the brain, then I kicked the poor fellow away. I turned to see my men already engaging the rest of the demons. I quickly leapt into the fray, drawing Tempest and I swung it from left and right. The smell of blood, and limbs flying past my head in an almost endless stream drove me on, but then the sounds of screams reached my ears and I stopped.
My men were being destroyed by a lone, humongous, L9 demon officer, armed with a battle-axe and a sawed-off shotgun. He split one of my men from the top down. Both halves fell to the ground, which was now decorated with the poor man’s innards. He then proceeded to massacre the rest of my men, slicing and shooting to kill. I tried to step in, but as the last soldier fell, the demon turned to me. It’s white eyes stared at me hungrily as it started to walk towards me. Suddenly, out of nowhere, several teenagers of varying sizes rushed the demon. One, holding a small TEC-9 of one of the fallen men, leaped towards it. The others tackled it, trying to distract it. Meanwhile, the armed boy leaped onto the demon’s back and climbed up it. Upon reaching its head, he aimed the pistol down and unloaded a full clip into the roof of it’s head. Doing that only angered the beast, which threw him off of it into a wall. The boy, instead of laying on the floor, stood up. The most distinguishable feature about him were his two contrasting eyes; one gold, one silver. I then saw the boy transform into a horse-sized wolf and lunge at the demon’s throat, which he bit into and tore out. As the demon fell to it’s knees and finally face down on the ground, the wolf shifted back into the boy, who collapsed to his knees. However, before he fell flat on his face, the kids who had leapt off the demon before the wolf tore its throat out caught him and kept him steady. I was then escorted out by Scorpion Zodes.
