Chapter # 3
The Blue Writing
When Steve opened the letter, there were three blank pages in it. Steve turned the pages over and over again, but there was not a single word written on it except at the end of last page "ROSEMARY" was written in Italic.
Steve was really confused and didn't know what to do but before going to cops and informing them about the development of current situation, he decided to first meet his friend George Harrison, a retired colonel and former CIA field agent, to take his suggestion and help finding his wife.
"Is that it? Are you sure that there wasn't anything else in it? Some sort of picture or something like that." George asked Steve while turning over the pages.
"Yeah, I am sure man." Steve shook his head. "There was nothing else, that's why I am here. I am so worried man; you have to help me." Steve said in a begging tone.
George put a hand on his shoulder and said. "Don't worry man. I'll try my best."
"Thanks man, I knew I can count on you."
"Don't sweat it, just tell me this, did you try looking for any hidden messages?"
"I did, but nothing." Steve nodded. "There was nothing in it."
"What...?" George eyes were fixed on Steve "And how did you try."
"Well you know...hidden ink maybe ....so I tried flash light on it but nothing was visible."
Hearing this George giggled, "My friend it doesn't work like that.... first you have to apply the phenolphthalein (a coloring reagent that turns pink) and then you have to pass through the ultraviolet light through it."
Steve grinned embarrassedly. "You know me; I was never interested in such stuff."
George smiled and said "Let me show you." And then he went inside his room. After a while he came outside with a big bottle, named Indicator "Phenolphthalein", in his one hand while a small green colored lamp in his other hand .Then he dropped few drops on each paper. He turned on the lamp and brought the paper close to the lamp. As green light passed through the paper George astonishingly said "What the...."
Steve also got close. "What happened? What's written on it?"
"Nothing..." George nodded his head in disappointment "there is nothing on it."
"Too bad..." Steve took a sad sigh and said "I guess there was nothing in it after all."
"It doesn't make sense...there has to be something in it ..." George was trying again and again bringing the paper in front of that Green lamp but no use.
"Leave it George... there is nothing in it....these are just blank pages after all, it was my fault for making such a big deal out of it." Steve sat relaxed on his chair and took out a cigarette and was searching his pocket for a lighter.
"Wait..." George said it like he figured something. Steve also stopped moving, looking at him in his eyes.
"Maybe.... we were... after the wrong thing, maybe that name ROSEMARY is what they have sent."
Steve seemed confused. He asked George while looking in his eyes."What are you trying to say?"
"I am saying that maybe the word ROSEMARY is some sort of acronym and it is itself a message." George eyes were shinning and his face had a keen look in it.
Steve nodded his head for a while and then again started searching his pocket for the lighter and said "I don't know man.....it sounds really weird .... I don't think there is something like that."
Steve lit the cigarette and both of them sat there quietly for a while thinking. Mostly George was thinking glancing at the pages again and again...some time looking at the word ROSEMARY while Steve was blowing off smoke in a depressed state.
After half an hour of silence George broke the silence barrier and said "I can't get through it, either there is nothing in it or either it's out of my league to figure it out."
Steve blew the smoke out of his mouth and said," I am telling ya, just burn it man. We are wasting our time on this ...Instead of looking out for them."
"You are right ..." George took a long sigh, "We are wasting our time, it's of no use we should burn this and ....." suddenly George stopped like a man struck by a lightning and a spark appeared in his eyes.
"What happened...?" Steve looked at him.
"I have an idea....we might be able to get what's written on it but..." George was way too excited to complete the sentence.
Steve got straight in the chair "but what..."
"But it's a one-way trick and whether it succeeds or not we will lose the papers..."
"Well as long as it's worth trying, go for it..." Even though Steve agreed to that but his eyes were clearly showing the denial signs that he is not willing to lose the paper. "But what's the trick?"
"Ohh ... you just wait and watch…maybe it will work." George seemed very excited. He got off his chair and went inside the room adjacent to the kitchen door in front of them. Strange noises were coming from inside of the room as if George was searching for something while aggressively displacing other stuff.
And suddenly he came outside with a small transparent bottle of glass, containing a blue powder, covered with dust. George blew the dust away, opened it and took a small amount of powder...... and spread it on the table. Then he went inside the kitchen and brought some water and a small bowl. He started to mix that blue powder with the water and blue color solution appeared.
He took a dropper and filled it up and then he dropped 5-6 drops of that blue colored solution on that paper.
"Give me a lighter..." George raised the hand towards Steve.
"What...a lighter...Why ?”
"Come on...be quick... I am going to tell you.....just do what I say..." Steve took the lighter out of his pocket and gave it to George.
"Ok now hold this Paper like this." George pointed with his eyes towards the paper which was held horizontally clasped on its diagonal ends by George hands.
"Ok, now what..." Steve was really curious about what George was doing and George being usual him, loved to keep the curiosity at peak and never uttering a single word till the end, probably his mysterious nature was due to his time spent working as a CIA field agent.
George lit up the Lighter and put it under the paper, burning it slowly.
Suddenly a blue Colored writing appeared and it was glowing.
"Hold it...like this..." George quickly took out his phone and took pictures of it. He repeated the same thing for other two papers too and quickly took their pictures.
Soon the papers turned into ashes, taking away all the evidence (blue writing).
