“You force Yui to playhouse with you selfishly,” Frederick scolded Ivan, but not for long he laughed again. “If you just let Yui produce some T1 embryos, everything would not have come to this.”
Ivan couldn’t talk back.
“To conserve the human race, a complete genome library is essential,” Frederick continued his lecture. “Everyone on the Ark must offer their gene, it’s a duty.”
“I understand… but that’s not everything!” Ivan argued. “I saw the record from the old human! Even without the reproduction facility like the Ark, the old human survived for 1977 years! Can’t we just live like that?”
“Interesting, old human,” Frederick was offended, but quickly returned to his prideful manner. “If old human were that great, why are we on the Ark?”
“There… must be some reason!” Ivan mumbled. “My point is that… the Ark is not the only way!”
“Since you brought that up, let me tell you the truth about the old human,” Frederick laughed again. “The old human you liked so much, started the Fourth World War in year 2020 because of their primitive and barbaric obsession.”
“Wait… Fourth… World War?” Ivan could not comprehend.
“And in year 2070, supernatural disasters appeared all across the world, punishing the foolish old human,” Frederick spoke dramatically, mocking Ivan’s ignorance.
“Limitless happiness without a price, the Happiness Tonic that remove the will to live; the Shadows that could only be deterred by illumination, and strike when their host is asleep; contagious Curse that transform living organism into perpetual machines; the R'lyehian that appear out of nowhere, unstopped by any barrier, only exist to exterminate humanity – these are just a few examples of the “Anomalies” out of millions.”
Ivan was speechless listening to the unexpected truth.
“The old human was decimated by the horror from fairy tales, and there were less than 1% population left,” Frederick spoke like a judge, sentencing Ivan’s ignorance. “The old human had been exploiting each other for their primitive and barbaric obsession, starting numerous meaningless wars. In order to prevent the same fate, the New World must eliminate this obsession and the strongest obsession of men… is monopolising another person.”
“The Ark has managed to suppress this ‘obsession’ through entertainment and the genome system,” Frederick shook his head in dismay. “You are a T1 personnel, you could have enjoyed everything, swapping for another Genome Agent every day, but you did not even use a single Genome Automaton. You want to monopolise Yui, which means monopolising a public property. You did not produce embryo, which means you are forsaking your duty, guilty of idleness and parasitism.”
“How is this possible…” Ivan could not accept.
“Now you understand. The reason you came to this is solely caused by your obsession.”
