The dictionary definition of the term religion is “a personal set or institutionalized system of religious attitudes, beliefs, and practices” (Merriam-Webster, 2018). Religion and humanity have walked hand-in-hand for ages. A person’s belief in a deity or a doctrine can alter an individual’s moral life. This can be seen in our readings in various forms such as in the excerpts read from Bhagavad Gita and Surah from the Quran.240Please respect copyright.PENANAsVAGxNo8n6

It must be unspoken at the very core that religion and moral life are intimately connected, but are by no means mean they are interchangeable. Both can be problematic to identify definitively and the interactions between the two in all societies. The foundations of people's moral values are closely interlocked in dominant or traditional religious beliefs. The moralities of the community derive their validity from the integrity of the principal religion. The sociologists denote this as socio-cultural compatibility.240Please respect copyright.PENANACco7QjgHlc

As stated in the beginning, religion is presumed to be a system of beliefs and practices of religious attitudes, ideas, and practices. These beliefs and practices can differ between cultures. The personal religious core inclines toward being a major contributing factor in determining one’s sense of self. In the sight of those with more conservative beliefs, it sees religion as something to be envied and sometimes used for partial and bias views. Morality in of itself is the details in which one sets there boundaries in respect to their community and culture at all levels. Morals also tend to be relevant for the less commanding members of society. They can serve as a sort of restraint for the more powerful members and ensure there is no maltreatment, and to protect one’s self. This can be seen and is explained in The Quran, "Sūrah 5" that we had read this week. “Sūrah 5” mentions the faultlessness of the Islamic system. It says that many adverse things are allowed by us, and any oppressors will give up doing so. This is a clear and cutout example of the morals mentioned above for a community or individual with belief in the Islamic system of religion.240Please respect copyright.PENANAAwKr0a6PCq

Religion will not propagate the sense of preservation or the promotion of fair or unbiased moral values. This is backed by the excerpt, The Bhagavad Gita, "Sixth" and "Eleventh Teaching,” issued for reading. Arjuna seeks advice from Krishna on whether the path of renunciation is more dynamic for reaching Nirvana. Krishna, in turn, endorses the thought of action whether it is in enlightenment or meditation. Since Krishna says, that is through meditation that one can genuinely conquer himself and peacefully live no matter the external surroundings. It is through this that we see that there is no provocation or endorsement of self-preservation or lacking morals, but that of bettering one’s self. 240Please respect copyright.PENANA46COqbhSlB

Healthy religious beliefs of doctrines or deities must promote openness for adherent change. It can contribute to the community as a whole or directly to the individuals themselves. It can encourage a sense of being or purpose, contribute to healthy living, or promote inner growth. Such as previously mentioned instant of Krishna promoting the benefits and needs to meditate to Arjuna. There is also a sense of situational awareness that one can obtain through religion. This can be a combination of the worldly and present concerns or other-worldly and futuristic concerns.
At present, there is the prevalence of the tendency in religious communities to be too pessimistic about the possibility of change in our present situation, especially in the interest of those who are victims of the current state of things.240Please respect copyright.PENANAvd4xfi8BuP

As which is evident by the sixth and eleventh teachings of Bhagavad Gita belief in doctrine or deity can promote benefits for one’s self not only in body but also in mind and spirit. It can improve an individual’s morality.240Please respect copyright.PENANAXhfZPczoMI
In the final analysis, there is a core of good religion and moral brilliance in which can affect one’s moral life. Religion plays a crucial role in defining how one evaluates their actions and lives in their definition of moral life. It is their belief in systems or deities that some individuals find and/or create their morality. It can be considered a defining feature of one’s life. It is never to be underestimated the strength of the belief of a doctrine or deity can have on an individual’s morals.
