A black BMW came to a gracious halt before them. Before the wheel sat a decent-looking youngster in a white shirt, with his hair neatly combed and slicked back. Immediately he alighted from the car and opened the back passenger doors for Fengjiu and her saviour. As they got into the car, Fengjiu wondered if owning a BMW and being chaffeured was the mortal definition of high status. Did the mortals go around flaunting their wealth? She couldn't help but laugh at the thought.
The man told his chaffeur, "Take her to the nearest clinic. Pay for her medical bills. But drop me off at De Meridian first."
"As you instructed, Sir." The man, upon seeing that everyone were strapped securely in their seatbelts, promptly started moving the vehicle. His driving skills had been so smooth that Fengjiu relaxed herself. When she had first set foot on this world which had been different from the previous worlds that she had been in the mortal realm, she had a few dissatisfying experiences while taking the taxi.
She watched as the handsome-looking stranger got off and entered the hotel. De Meridian seemed absolutely majestic. She wondered how long would she have to work in the mortal realm to earn that much money to reside in the hotel. Due to her laziness and short attention span, she hadn't bothered to do much business in the mortal realm. She had set up a shop, but due to lack of interest and her unwillingness to put in much effort, she had it only run four days a week.
"Miss, we're here. Do you need help?"
"I can manage, thank you," Fengjiu said.
"Please allow me to escort you," Chong Lin said. "It's my boss' orders."
In the family clinic, Chong Lin helped Fengjiu register herself with the fake identity card that she had materialised with her powers. As she had just used a bit of magic, there had been no adverse effects on her self. As she waited for her turn to see the physician, Fengjiu took the opportunity to ask Chong Lin about his employer.
"Mr Chong, is your boss someone important?"
Chong Lin hesitated. Fengjiu realised his situation, and quickly changed her question. Perhaps the handsome stranger was someone who didn't like people knowing about his life.
"I just want to know his name so I can repay his gratitude," she explained.
The man remained speechless, but then reached into his pocket and drew out a business card. "I am Chong Lin of Jiuchong Group. You can contact me in the future at the number on the card if you need anything. I'll be glad to help."
"Probably he didn't know his boss rescued me?" Fengjiu thought to herself. But wasn't it awkward for her to be so warm to someone she had just met? Furthermore, she didn't want to put him in a tight spot as he worked for the handsome stranger. At this thought, Fengjiu just remained silent instead of asking him further.
She read the name on the card in her hands.
"Chong Lin, executive secretary and personal assistant to Dong Hua." Could the handsome stranger's name be Dong Hua? she thought.
Suddenly, her mind was filled with thoughts on how she wanted to repay Dong Hua for saving her life from the speeding car that day.
..........................
When Fengjiu returned to her mortal habitat, she couldn't stop thinking of the breathtaking eyes of the stranger and how their eyes had met and locked with each other.
She lived in an apartment that she paid for rent out of her monthly earnings from the shop. While she had a few skills of her own, she had previously trained under the guidance of a tailor and a hairstylist. She owned a sundry shop, but she also sold textiles and did tailoring. However, she was best at culinary arts, so she would occasionally host cooking classes. She was also a social influencer and her live streams on her cooking and baking sessions would gather millions of views.
Flipping up the cover of her notebook computer, Fengjiu keyed in "De Meridian event" on her search engine. She had recalled seeing a standing signboard placed on the floor when Dong Hua entered the hotel. From the signboard she had known that an event was being held at the hotel. Perhaps, this was her only key to finding out who this Mr. Dong Hua was.
The search yielded about twenty results. She clicked on the first result, which described a charity event. She was curious to know what Dong Hua was doing at the event, so she began reading to find out.
"The Faith in Love charity event organised by Jiuchong Group this afternoon at De Meridian, gathered $90,000 to be distributed among the needy orphans of Faith Edge Orphanage. The CEO of Jiuchong Group, Mr Dong Hua was present and added to the liveliness of the event by singing and presenting gifts to the young orphans," Fengjiu read from the blog post. The blogger had also included a few photographs of Dong Hua.
Fengjiu zoomed in on the photographs taken of Dong Hua during the event. The handsome man in the photographs was definitely Dong Hua. He had looked just as handsome in the photographs as he was in person. She right-clicked on the photographs to save them to her desktop, and continued to look at them for about a few hundred times more.
Dong Hua, Dong Hua. She repeated his name to herself in her mind. This name had sounded so magnificent and remarkable. In just one moment, he had captured her heart. Would she see him again?
She reminded herself that she was an immortal, and she didn't belong to this world. Her travel to the mortal realm was but a little "vacation" for her, an experience for her to learn from the ways of the mortals. It was something she had been doing for some time, now.
Then she thought about the question of 'love' again. If it was love that she felt for this Dong Hua, how would her grandfather Bai Zhi, King of Qingqiu, react to this grandchild falling in love with a common mortal? Regardless how rich Dong Hua was, being a mortal meant he was prone to a short lifespan. And her father Bai Yi would be mad and punish her again, she thought. On a second thought, perhaps she was just feeling grateful to the man for saving her life. Even if she wouldn't die from being knocked down by a car due to her cultivation, she would probably be in pain right now. The pain was inevitable. When she fell with Dong Hua, she had gained a small bruise on her calf from a slight abrasion when her leg had come in contact with the rough pavement. She had been wearing a loose fitting summer dress that ended just above her knees, so the thin material wasn't able to prevent her injury. If just an abrasion hurt that much, imagine being hit by the car. That had to be it. She probably just wanted to repay her debt to Dong Hua, she reassured herself.
She looked at the business card again. The young man named Chong Lin seemed a honest chap. Perhaps, if she had an excuse that was good enough to convince him that she could conduct business with Dong Hua's company, then they could meet again. Firstly, she had to do research on what Dong Hua's company did, and then, she could strike a business deal with the company and most likely, see Dong Hua again. As her elders said, a debt had to be repaid.
