I jumped off the last step of the bus and spotted Brielle walking away from the bus parked in front of mine. I ran over to get behind her and poked her shoulder. She whipped her head around and looked mad, but then she saw my face and smiled.
“Mara, Good morning girl!”, she looked at my outfit and said,” Cute! How are you so good at, like, picking out your clothes!”
I laughed,” G’morning. And this?”. I gestured at my outfit,” C’mon Bri, it’s nothing special.”
She rolled her eyes and looked at me disbelievingly. “Pfft, ok Ms. fashion designer.”
Now it was my time to roll my eyes. She was taking this too far for my liking. I got a new plaid skirt and paired it up with a simple, white turtleneck top. Seriously Bri, chill.
We walked through the gate to school together and saw Jessi and Avery standing by the sycamore tree where my group meets every morning. I think the tree was planted about 20 years ago when the school first opened because there is a little plaque right in front of it that says “Tree Ridge Middle School in Donstock, September 18, 1998”. Tree Ridge is the youngest school in my district, but it is one of the most popular. There are probably about 450 or so kids in each grade.
“Heeeey!”, they welcomed us in unison.
“Hey, guys!”, I said back.
I ran over and gave both of them huge bear hugs. I just joined my group starting this year, and they are the best friends that I could ever have. I don’t really know why they let me join, though because Fayth and I weren’t popular at all.
I looked over to where Fayth and I used to hang out, but she wasn’t sitting over there today. I sighed and rubbed my fingertips together. We used to be really good friends, but I just couldn’t keep going back and forth between her and my friends that I have now. Hopefully, she’s not too hurt from me, but the guilt from it fades a little more each day.
Averting my gaze from where Fayth was supposed to be, my gaze settled on Bryce and his friends. I felt my face heat up in the cold, and I sheepishly smiled to myself. Bryce and I were friends in Preschool and starting in 4th grade I developed a crush on him that has lasted ever since. Sometimes his group hangs out with mine, and Avery is dating his friend Grayson, but nowadays we don’t talk much. I think that’s mostly because of me blushing bright red whenever he even looks at me, though.
I felt a slight tap on my shoulder and heard Hailey’s voice,” Earth to Mara, earth to Mara. Stop staring at Bryce, Bri wants to tell us something!”
“Oh! Um, okay!”, I turned around and saw everyone looking at me with a smirk on their faces. I blushed even more out of embarrassment.
Bri cleared her throat and clapped both of her hands together,” M'kay everyone, so I just wanted to say that I’m having a bat mitzvah and I’m inviting you guys!”. She smiled and looked at all of our confused faces.
“Uh, what’s this… bart mitza thingy?”, I asked, and everyone nodded like they wanted to ask the same thing

Bri looked at me like I was the dumbest thing alive."You guys know that I'm Jewish, right?"
"Ooooh, does this have something to do with that?", Jessi asked.
" Yeah, yeah it does! It's called a bat mitzvah and is this ceremony when Jewish kids turn thirteen and sing all of these prayers and stuff to become, like, an adult in the eyes of the Jewish community!", Bri explained excitedly. "And then, at the end, there's gonna be a huge party!", she squealed.
I smiled really big, and I think Jessi, Avery, and Hailey were too. A party? Dang, this Bat Mitzvah stuff sounded awesome. Except for the part where she had to sing. I giggled thinking about what it's going to be like to hear Bri sing stuff.
"What's so funny?", Bri noticed my giggling.
"I was just thinking about how you're gonna have to sing stuff," I told her in between bursts of giggles.
She looked offended at first and I suddenly felt bad, but then she started laughing, and everyone joined in. Nobody could stop laughing until the bell rang. We had a big group hug and finally went to our classes.
A/N:
Hewo...🥺, I hope that you like this chapter of Fayth Has Feelings, Too. I wanted to do Mara's perspective of things because I think it will make the story more interesting. I actually don't really know where this is going so just bear with me if things get really weird in this story...
Also, thank you guys sooooo much for over 500 views! Anyways, 𝓛𝓸𝓮𝓻𝓿 𝔂'𝓪𝓵𝓵!
