do you remember

what day it was?

do you remember

the cold

and the wind

and the dark

the branches and the bird

outside your window

the mist slowly clouding

into the shape of your worst fear?

did you smell

the onions frying in the pan

like i did?

did you see

the nameless faces

sitting with you

around the table

and know their names?

did you walk the road

that took me home

instead of you?

there were crimson leaves

on the ground

and light

in the windows

that lined the street.

it was late autumn

if i had to guess.

i don’t remember.

i thought maybe you did.

but

you didn’t wake up that morning

so probably not.
