Author note: Long time no see, long time no write. Murata and Jozak again. Still think they are very cute. And yes, this story is based on TV settings (season 2).
"What if I suddenly forgot everything?"
"Huh?"
"Don't ask anything. Just answer."
That was really weird, as the sage was asking this kind of hypothetical, meaningless question in a serious tone.
"Umm... at least for me, nothing would be different," Jozak answered.
"Seriously? You could have fooled me."
"So what kind of answer your highness would like to hear?" Laughed, Jozak asked with a playful tone.
"I am asking you. Don't escape my question."
Murata's expression of this moment was something people rarely see, even for Jozak. Although he still didn't understand Murata's purpose, he knew that now is not the time for joking.
Jozak looked into Murata's beautiful black eyes, answered seriously.
"That was genuine."
"You are Murata Ken," Jozak chose his words carefully, not showing any cues on his feelings, "...a friend of His Majesty. Having those memories or not would not cause any difference."
Murata didn't say anything. He just stared at Jozak, making the big guy almost shudder.
"Hum..." Murata didn't give any meaningful response even after a while. He just retracted his gaze and looked up at the ceiling.
The candlelight was reflected on the ceiling, shaking and shivering. Just like the light in Murata's eyes, flickering.
The emotions hidden in those eyes were difficult to read even for an experienced spy. So Jozak just waited for Murata to say something, even not sure if the latter would do so.
In fact, that was just a short pause until Murata spoke slowly.
"For me, forgetting has always been like a metaphor...symbolising betrayal," Murata blinked his eyes when he said so, "However, sometimes, I found remembering all those stuff was...tired. I am not saying I want to forget everything. Actually, I wouldn't even think about it."
"I just want to say..."
Murata took another short pause, trying to find the right words. But he soon changed his mind, smiled and continued saying, "No. I am just too sleepy. I am so tired that I started talking nonsense. Just forget about it."
It was way too much, for both of them.
Jozak knew Murata would not continue on this topic, however, he still wanted to say something. No. He knew that he must say something. Now or never.
There might not be any other chances for Murata, like tonight, calling for help.
"Remember or not, as I said, it is not a big deal. If remembering is painful, then just forget it. If you wanted to escape from all these kinds of stuff, just go ahead. However, I just hope that your highness could remember one simple thing,"
Jozak intensionally stressed the following sentence.
"There is always someone in Shin Makoku waiting for you."
