There was little these days that could please the Lord. He had seen it all during his time as reagent. Nothing was new. Not the songs of the bards as they sought to entertain him nor the tales of travellers and guests passing through. Thus, existence was dull for him. Days were spent in service to his kingdom and little else. It all blurred together into a dreary continuous existence.
The Lord longed for something out of the ordinary. Something that would interest him again for once. By this time, even the weekly beheadings-- though fun for him as they may be-- were starting to lose excitement. Not to mention, he was running out of mortal residents of his realm to kill. The other realms were of no use for gathering mortals. Typically, the guardians of their respective realms tended to object to the outsiders “borrowing” their citizens. As for simply watching the mortals, well that was nearly as bad as invoking the ire of a realm’s guardian. As dull as the Lord believed his own people to be, even they were more interesting than the mortals.
They were more interesting than most mortals.
Indeed, just as his Lordship had given up all hope of being properly entertained once more, word of her reached his ears. Whispers, it had been at first, travelling throughout the shadows toward his realm. These whispers soon pooled together, forming a shabby tapestry of tales. Tales of espionage, daring, bravery. Of great evil, great good, and one woman caught between it all.
A curious subject all on her own, was this woman. A great thief and skilled assassin, they called her. No job not possible, no kill too hard. She would get it done. Yet this was not all that intrigued the Lord. For he heard of her powers.
The Lord’s informants had kept these hidden from him, lest he destroy them in a moment of ill mood. However, it was quite impossible to keep something so significant from him. He did learn of all the little”tricks” that the woman could pull off. Feats only possible by one of his kind. Why, who could this mysterious creature be?
The Lady of Ravens herself.
