Tony Stark leaned in over his invention. It wasn’t easy but he’d just about done it. An Iron Suit capable of travelling at the speed of light. All he needed to do was join the last two atom molecules together through this tiny electron fusion device he had specially formulated himself. He inched his two armoured gloves closer together holding the fusion guns tenderly. ‘It must be correct to the nearest millimetre,’ his AI helper Friday informed him, ‘Any fusion outside of the exact measurements will cause an implosion that will wipe out New York city within a 50,000km zone of the Avengers Tower.’ Sweat beaded down Tony’s forehead.
‘In other words, no pressure whatsoever,’ spoke Tony through gritted teeth.
‘Easy does it...’ (he began the molecular fusion), blue sparks began melting out in sparks in front of him.
BANG. The door flew off it’s hinges. Tony jumped in fright. The molecular fusion turned red and formed a tiny black sphere.
‘Uh oh.’
Drax The Destroyer stood in the doorway with a blank expression on his face. ‘Mister Tony, sincerest apologies about the door. Is now a bad time?’
‘Yes now is a bad time!’ Tony roared.
The black sphere started sucking nearby tools into it, growing in size, little sparks of lightning flickering from it.
‘Friday, abort experiment! Abort!’
‘Too late Mr Stark, 7 seconds to explosive impact.’
‘Not on my watch Friday! Not on my watch! Operate mission Tortoise.’
An ironsuit flew from the background and Tony commanded it to form around the black sphere.
‘Drax?’
’Yes Tony?’
’Run!’
’Why?’
The suit around the sphere began to glow red from within, and began to implode with violent crackles.
Another ironsuit flew around Tony at his mental command, he flew at Drax, grabbed him and dived out the window, a hollow boom sounded behind them as Tony flew past various sky scrapers and landed at a safe distance.
Drax stood, ‘Why did you say run Tony and then fly? Did you bump your head on the way out?’
Stark struggled to remain calm. He looked up at Avengers tower. Half of it was missing, and there was smoke rising from it, with sirens sounding over the city.
’You....’ he said to Drax. ‘What was so urgent that you barged in during my science fusion experiment, practically ripping the door of it’s hinges. What super villain has returned? Loki? Thanos? Ultron? It must have been quite important.’
’Yes,’ answered Drax.
Tony waited but Drax just looked back at him blankly.
Tony sighed. ‘Yes what?’
‘Yes it was important.’
Tony felt liked crying. ‘Ok I’ll dumb it down to your level. Why - you - here?’
‘Why are we all here Stark? Life.’
‘Why were you in my building?’
’Oh that. Hulk and I were hanging out. Left to go home. Lost my way in Avengers Tower. Really needed to use the bathroom. Found your office door with your name on it-‘
‘So you’re telling me, the Lightspeed IronSuit was destroyed along with half of Avengers Tour because Mister Drax needed to find the bathroom?!’
’-Mister Destroyer’
Tony breathed slowly to try to calm himself further. ’Mr Destroyer, dost thou needest to use the bathroom now?’
’Um, since the explosion ... no.’
(Tony wrinkled his nose).
’Gross.’
‘It’s a natural reaction to deadly terror.’ Drax replied unashamedly.
Tony didn’t respond. For the first time in his life Stark was speechless.
Drax put both arms on the Iron suit’s shoulders. ‘You saved my life Stark!’ (He knelt down in front of him). ‘In my culture that means I must remain by your side night and day, until I save your life in return.’
Tony stepped back terrified.
’Please no....! Haven’t you punished me enough today?!!’
‘My dear Mister Stark I am now indebted to your service-‘
’uh ah, not happening big guy!’
’-and will stay by your side night and day until I have repaid my debt.’
’No, no, no, no, no, no!!!!’
Tony ignited the Ironsuit’s rocketboosters and blasted off into the sky turning on some ACDC to calm his fretting mind. He headed in the direction of the Guardian’s Rocketship which was floating near the Statue of Liberty. That was it. Starlord might talk some sense into Drax.
’Yes Mister Stark!’ bellowed Drax after him. ‘I probably need a walk after my shock, you fly and I will find you.’ Drax shouted up at Ironman as he attempted a slow jog that turned into a pause and wheezing for breath. ‘I’ll .... I’ll walk after you, never fear, your servant is here...’
Drax collapsed on all fours wheezing for breath.
Tony glanced back as he zoomed closer to StarLord’s Starship, ‘Gosh that dude’s seriously unfit. Okay, the Guardians can fix this. Drax has to listen to them!’
