Growing up in Dowagiac, Michigan, Melody Mivshek knows she is different. Throughout childhood, she feels awkward in social settings and prefers to be alone with her skateboard. Melody’s quiet, unassuming life ends when she meets Becky Valentine, a troubled transfer student from Detroit. The two lonely girls soon become best friends.
Once in high school, their bond grows stronger, but separately, they both begin to struggle with their sexual identity. Inevitably, they come to the same conclusion and accept that they are in love with each other.
Keeping their relationship a secret, the young lovers decide to leave for Florida after graduation, but their plans shatter as a string of tragic events tear them apart.
After an emotional breakdown, Melody intends to commit suicide. Only love and acceptance can save Melody from herself, but can she be reached in time?
