I opened the box and was amazed by what I saw, never, not even once had I seen so much money. It was enough to last the orphanage for years to come but what surprised me the most was the unfathomable sight of the cat in front of me.
"So what have you decided?" the cat who stood before me asked. I only looked at it shocked and unable to speak.
"Why can you talk?" I bent down to observe the animal closely. It had a hat and a bow tie on its neck. Most importantly how did it carry the box that weighed almost as heavy as me?!
"Argh! Typical humans. Always doubting what they see!" It said frustrated.
I cleared my throat looked at the animal, then swiftly ran into the house slamming the door on its face.
Right, I must have lost it! Great Amanda! You've just lost it! Now you can see talking cats! What next? Flying birds??...Argh
"Um...who was it?" Jane the eldest of the teenage kids asked me. I walked to her and said "Uh...no one...just the wind." I then lead her away from the door.
"I am still out here Human!!" I heard the cat say.
"I think I heard someone!"
"Really? You must be hearing things! There is definitely no talking cats out there!" I said and she gave a weird look.
"Um...I should probably check on James..." With that, she disappeared into the hall. I walked back to the door and opened it. To my surprise, the cat was laying on the box of money its face covered with its hat.
"Okay. What do you want?" I asked trying not to sound panicked.
It raised the hat from its face and looked at me. "Finally!" It said getting down from the box.
"We need your help."
"My help?? We? Who is 'we'?" I asked confused. I mean I was talking to a cat!
"The S.C.O.," He said
"The what now?"
"Argh! The secret Cats organization obviously!"
"The Secret Cats organization? Let me guess you are a group of cats who do things together mmh? Ha!" I laughed out loud. "You had me fooled the local authorities! You had me fooled! To think you'd send your talking cat robot to my door! I am not sorry for breaking the fountain! It was a waste of precious money!" I yelled to the sky as if the local authorities were there. I then picked up the furry animal.
"But I have gotta give it to you this is just genius!" I pulled the cat's ears.
"Hey! That hurts! I am a well-respected member of the S.C.O and I deserve to be treated with respect!!" He yelled.
"Oh, you even made it feel like a cat!" I felt its fur.
"Hey, human girl put me down this instant!!" He yelled
"Okay, Okay!" I placed the cat down.
"Anyway, we want you to help us take over the human world." The cat, Mr.Cat -as I had nicknamed him- said and I burst out laughing. A cat was asking me, a human, to help it take over the human world? Does it think it works like that?
"I am being serious. We are offering you this money and our loyalty in return." He continued on with a dead-serious expression.
"Are you an alien?" I asked and he slapped his forehead to show hopelessness in the situation.
"I am a cat. And if you refuse to comply we have no choice but to kill you and obliterate this orphanage." his voice was now threatening. I went silent.
"Just a question, why do you want to take over the human world?" I asked after some time.
For a minute he hesitated as if not expecting the sudden question.
"The humans are planning something deadly that could destroy the world." He finally said. Wonderful, the cat wants to take over the world because we humans are creating something deadly.
"I don't get it, why don't you take it over yourselves why come to me, a human, didn't you say we are creating a deadly thing?" I eyed him suspiciously.
"Okay, not all humans but the upper leaders. We destroy them, we take over the world and perhaps lead humans into good!" He said enthusiastically. None of what he was saying was making sense. Cat leading humans into good? What the heck?!
"Also we heard you are the most skilled swordsman around you see we cats have tiny hands and I doubt our tiny swords could hurt an army of humans."
Oh great so I just march into the upper leaders HQ or whatever and fight a whole army of humans and then say something like "Don't mind me, I am just here to help the cats take over the world because you are creating something deadly!" Great, that seems like a reasonable plan to me!
I went silent. "I am sorry but I can't do what you ask of me," I said before walking back into the house.
"Wait! Think about everyone, this money could help the orphanage, you could also save the world from great danger, you'd be known as a hero, just like your father."He said and I stopped dead in my tracks.
My father. No one seemed to remember the great hero of World Battle 1... He united all the nations. But soon he was mercilessly killed by the so-called upper leaders of the world. If anything I at least wanted them to pay for their evil, Maybe cats taking over isn't that bad?
"I just have to kill them right?" I turned to face him and he nodded.
"It's a pleasure working with you Amanda." He stretched his hands towards me with a grin and I shook the tiny paw.
"Gosh!! I accepted this job but no one told me I had to climb mountains to reach the so-called upper leaders. I had left the orphanage a letter together with the box of money.
"Stop right there strange creature!!" Someone or something yelled behind me. "Turn around slowly and drop your weapon." He said...I hadn't even removed my sword!!
I turn around and was met by a young short boy.
"Pft..!" I couldn't help but laugh. To think a child was threatening me. "Now, now respect your elders and run along and play the woods are dangerous for small kids like you," I said sweetly.
"I am not a kid! I am only nine!" The kid yelled.
"Yeah yeah, no run along!" I said again concerned.
"You...what are you doing here in the woods alone? It's dangerous here." He spoke with authority quickly brushing over the topic.
"Look kid, I don't know who you are but out here--"
"I am the king. One of the upper leaders. What brings you here?" The boy said.
"Say what?!" I stared blankly...So I was supposed to kill this boy?
"The king is a boy??" I continued still shocked.
"Yes. That shouldn't surprise you. Now, what brings you here?"
"Well... some cats told me to kill the upper leaders so that they can take over the world," I explained blatantly. I was going mad, so I might as well have told him.
-_- "So... cats told you to kill the upper leaders and you listened to them?"
"Y-yes." I said now feeling embarrassed, "Well it was hard not to when he convinced you with good words and also gave me money."
"And I wonder who is the kid among us..." The boy said mockingly.
"What are you creating?" I asked referring to the deadly thing Mr.Cats talked about earlier.
"...How do you know we are creating something?"
"...I thought I heard a machine sound..." I lied.
"We are not creating anything." He said irritated and threw his sword in anger at me barely missing me by an inch. I stood perplexed and confused. For a nine-year-old, he had a bad temper... Why did he get all angry when I asked about what he was creating? Was the cat right in saying that they were creating something deadly?
"I...If you know what is best for you you will not get involved." The boy said and disappeared. I was left there confused. I didn't seem to think that the nine-year-old would want to destroy the world but his actions...but what if the cats are the ones who are wrong? Who is right and who is wrong? And why was I even involved in all this?
*And this is where I leave you all in suspense...because I am lazy and unable to think more...also anyone can continue! Thanks for reading!!*
