Alex distanced herself from the others as they walked towards the flag pole. Her eyes welled with tears threatening to reveal themselves. Deep breath in. Deep breath out. The words repeated in her head over and over again but nothing seemed to help as images swirled around in her head like a wild tornado out of control. The world around her started to blur and she could barely make out the booming voices of her friends calling her name as they echoed through her head. Her vision began to worsen as the tears started to leak out despite her constant plead not to. Even through the storm boiling in her vains Alex spotted the one thing that could calm it. She dashed towards Arthur without a thought or a care in the world. As she reached him she quickly wrapped her arms around him as the tears started silently streaming down her face. Arthur was startled by the quick scene but his confusion quickly turned into sorrow as he heard the tears of the person he loved most in the world pour down. In an attempt to calm both him and Alex down he slowly wrapped his arms around her, gently rubbing her back with the palm of his hand. Everything in Alex’s world blurred and the only thing she could feel was Arthur’s warm body close to hers. Even his presence alone could heal her pain. As she began to cry harder, her heart pounding as she struggled to take a breath Arthur’s head began to spin. It was one of the hardest things in life to see the person you love so broken. He struggled to hold back tears of his own and could barely grasp the world around him as it felt like it was slipping away right at his finger tips, violently pulling him into a tsunami of sorrow and sadness. He fought against it as the sound of Alex’s crying began to slow down. The world for them both seemed to be coming back into reality. Arthur slowly rubbed Alex’s back remembering this tactic had worked before. He heard his girlfriend take a deep breath in and let it out and he decided to do the same. Alex slowly released her arms from around him while he followed her lead. After the two had separated they looked at each other, her eyes still bright red and puffy and his eyes still fighting back tears of his own. The two had an unspoken language as they looked each other in the eye and knew exactly what they were thinking. Hearts pounding. Heads spinning. But they both knew. I love you.
