So I'm not sure exactly where you were going with your story, but what I envisioned in my head was that the guy with the blue flame hair was actually a Reaper. He's the one saying soon, telling Kai. But maybe if you want to put a twist in your story - Kai has to hunt down the beasts in order to get his soul back from the Reaper. Your story could be about the journey that Kai takes for his soul (you can write some back story for how he lost his soul to the Reaper), but the longer he goes without it, the more dangerous and devious he becomes. Until he becomes the monster himself.
