'Twas the night before Christmas, and my wrapping was done. A large number of presents wrapped tightly with bows. When what to my wondering eye should appear but a note reminding my to buy a gift for my dear.

I stared at the note in shock, then, shaking my head, glanced at the clock a few feet above my head. Shoot! I thought. It was 11:00 on Christmas Eve and I didn't have a gift for my girlfriend! We have been going out for 4 years now, so I just had to get her a Christmas gift. I hurriedly pulled out my phone and began to look up stores. The Paper Store, the Dollar Tree, even Walmart and Target! They were all closed for the holidays!! Now where am I supposed to get Elena a gift?

Sighing, I jumped into my car and drove off, searching the desolate streets for any store that was open at this hour on Christmas Eve. Finally, after about 10 minutes of houses decorated with colorful Christmas lights and stores that all had their closed signs up, I came across a small strip of stores. In the middle of the dark strip I saw one shing light. I nearly jumped for joy. At least this was a place where I could get something!
I leaped out of the car and charged into the little antique shop immediately taking a quick 5 minutes to see if there was anything worthy of my girlfriend. The stupid grin I had been wearing slowly began to drop off my face as I realized there was absolutely nothing here Elena would like! She was too modern for an antique shop.
"Hello dearie," a voice croaked from behind me. "What brings you to my shop so late on a holiday?"
"You see," I began to explain, not quite sure why I was about to explain my dilemma to a complete stranger, "I've been going out with this girl, but I got so wrapped up in Christmas I forgot to get her a gift. Can you please help me?"
"Don't worry dearie, I have the perfect thing for you," she said, hobbling behind her counter only to return with the most beautiful piece of jewelry I had ever seen. It was a necklace with a pattern of pearls and gold with a pendant dangling from it. The pendant consisted of a ruby heart outlined in diamonds. It was perfect, the only thing good enough for Elena.
"I'll take it!" I said excitedly, snatching the piece of jewelry from the woman's hand and shoving the amount of money I owed in her other hand. "Thanks! Merry Christmas!" I yelled, dashing out the door.

I nervously sat on the couch, Elena beside me as she opened her gift. She looked confused when she saw the jewelry boxi had used. It was an adorable look on her. Slowly she opened the jewelry box, revealing my perfect gift.
Her eyes began to water with tears of joy and she leaned of to give me a kiss, whispering in my ear,
"It's perfect."
