Sarah’s POV
Saturday 12:33am
I pick up my phone and stare at it for a minute, swiping between pages on my Home Screen before deciding on an app and clicking into it. 14 new massages. I quickly scan over them and tell myself I’ll respond later as I open my texts with sky and type of some quick messages.

Hey Skyyy! How are you doing? Wanna hang this weekend?
- ???

As I wait for a reply I throw my phone down onto my bed and plop down beside it, blowing strands of messy brown hair out of my face as I do.
In the room next to me I hear my dad on the phone with someone. Probably another nurse or receptionist or something, there’s been alot of those lately…
Before I can wander any further into my thoughts I feel a buzz and my phone lights up with 3 new messages from sky.

She seems so happy, so alive. Honestly, I’m really glad I have someone like her in my life, someone so open about everything and always ready to help and easy to talk to. Considering this I decide on how to answer her question.

I sigh taking a deep breath as I wait for a reply. Ive heard stories of other kids who parents get sick but I never really thought much of it till now. Having your parent almost depend on you, seeing them so helpless and sick is really scary.

Sky’s reply, even if it’s not much, helps alot. I smile as I look at the text. Just knowing she’s always there for me is really comforting and I hope she knows that. My life isn’t perfect, but then again who’s is? My mom will get better won’t she? Doctors say there’s a 90% chance she’ll be okay within a year and a half or so and I’m trying to believe them. It’s just really hard one day having your mom then the next she’s suddenly gone, spending nights alone in a cold, bland hospital room. I get to visit her quite a bit but I don’t know, in a way it hurts even more every time I see her, like it’s just getting worse and worse without getting any better. I glance down at my phone again, now trying to fight back small tears forming in the corners of my eyes.
