A moment passes as I stare at the watch. It glistened under the moon light and its chain dangles from the man's hand. I gulped silently, should I look back at him? should I take the watch from him? just what should I do?

I inhaled slowly as I close my eyes with my head hanging low, my hand curls into a fists as I do so. Immediately, I take a step back and run away immediately, turning my back on to the mysterious man without ever looking back. My heartbeat began racing as I ran, the front door to the house started zooming out almost as if someone was preventing me to ever reach the door.

"Mom!" I yelled out. "Dad?!" I yelled out once more.

There was nothing. Neither my mom or dad showed up, there was no movement from inside the house either, no shadows behind the closed curtains or any sound emitting from the still house.

It was as if time had stopped.

A laughter broke through the quiet night from behind me. I stopped to look and saw that I still was in front of the man, my eyes widen from the confusion. Wasn't I just running away from him? why am I still here? what just―

"Take it." The man spoke. I squint my eyes to get a better view of his face, but I couldn't see anything, his face was against the light that the moon was creating, but even so I should still be able to see it, right? it's not that dark here and there were street lights as well too. Why can't I see his face?

The mysterious man opens his hand revealing the same gold watch. The hands of it wasn't moving, it looked broken, but I could swear it was moving before I ran away―

Before I could react, I hear the sound of the front door open. "What are you doing out there? It's late and cold!" I jump and look back to see my mom in her baby blue robe, her hair was messy and she could barely open her eyes, even from a distance her eyebags were prominent. She's working really hard for the family.

I look back in front of me, I flinch realizing the mysterious man was gone and nowhere to be seen. "Wasn't he just here...?" I mumble, frantically looking around my surroundings to try and see where he hid. There were no bushes or any bodies of nature where he could've hid, not even the trash bin that we have here would conceal him.

I felt blinded as something shiny caught my eye from below. I move my head and look down on my feet to see the gold watch between the grass. This time, its hands were moving, ticking every passing second.

I hear my mother call my name in a warning tone, "If you don't get back in this house I'm taking away your video games AND comic books!" She warns, immediately triggering my fight or flight mode. "What are you even doing out here?"
