As Steven climbed into bed and laid on his side, he felt the mattress indent with weight.
“Hey, Precious.” Steven relaxed as he recognized the gentle, warm voice.
“Spinel,” he murmured. “Hey.”
While he spoke, Spinel put her arm around him affectionately and rested her head on the side of his neck as she laced her fingers with his. He used his other hand-which was closer to her than his occupied one-to sink his fingers into her soft, tangled pigtail and involuntarily tighten his grip as she nuzzled his abnormally sensitive neck.
He let his eyes close, secretly relishing the sensation, then mumbled while laughing, “Baby, stop!”
She giggled quietly. “Alright,” she muttered, grinning. She laid her cheek on the side of his neck and gazed down at his face fondly, her gaze soft and glimmering with passion. Then she pulled back, her arm still around him, and laid down.
Settling into a comfortable position on her side behind him, Spinel murmured, “Goodnight, Steven. I love you.”
“Goodnight. And I love you more.”
He began to close his eyes, preparing for sleep, when suddenly, he leaned back and gazed up at her from an upside-down angle. His eyes sparkled pleadingly. “Can I get a goodnight kiss?” he begged quietly.
Spinel’s eyes shone with amusement. “Sure.”
She leaned down and they let their eyes close as their lips met. Upside-down or not, Steven thought to himself, her kisses are so passionate, and I love it!
The kiss was deep and loving with mild hunger to it on both their ends. After pulling gently away, Spinel gazed deep into his eyes.
“Was my goodnight kiss satisfying, sir?” she teased, mischief lighting up her eyes.
Steven let his own eyes shut, amused. “Yes, it was, madam.”
Chuckling quietly, they laid facing each other on their sides with their fingers laced once more and their heads bowed. They closed their eyes again and wrapped their free arms around each other.
“I love you,” Steven breathed blissfully. “So much.”
Spinel smiled. “I love you, too,” she whispered softly, dipping her head lower so that their foreheads pressed together lovingly.
Giving a small smile, Steven pulled her closer until their bodies pressed against each other’s. Silently, they fell asleep in each other’s affectionate arms.
