After Damian drove me to the station my brain was running a mile a minute, "alright I need a few people because I want to remake one of the crime scenes. I'm going to act like the killer, I am going to try to figure out the best weapon, and I'm going to try to think what might have been going through his or her head." Damian just stood there stunned, "ok, I'll see who I can pull from their duties." I walked off to the back of the station and talked to him over my shoulder as I was walking, "ok, I'll be in the back trying to set it up." Damian yelled as I walked away, "I'll send some cops to help you." "Show them skills girl," Ace cheered.

We still had to wait for Chief Edwards to get the last suspect, there was no telling how long that would take since it's already been a month, so Damian got a few officers to come to help us reenact the crime scene that called out to me the most. "Make the biggest guy the victim," Ace said with a laugh. "That's so mean," Thorn smiled, "make him a tree instead." Damian seemed kinda happy, but also concerned, "so what did you determine from the murders?" I let Chloe down so she could follow me. I thought about it the entire ride over to the station, "most serial killers, like myself, leave some kind of symbol like a marker stating, 'yea I'm the one that killed this person, come and find me. But you'll never figure out it's me.'" I had one of the officers laying on the ground in the same position as the victim, I didn't pick the biggest guy, "were there any marks on the floor at the crime scene?" The biggest one stood next to me and nodded as he combed over the crime scene photos for the reenactment, "there were a few scrapes on the wood floor." He took out a marker to try and draw the scrapes and the blood around the body. I paced around a little bit, "there was some blood in the room but not enough suggesting that the killer killed the victim in his home. There was also a few moved items, you can tell by the dust outlines. I think he brought the body there but killed him elsewhere. Possibly had the man for weeks torturing him for some kind of pleasure." Damian snapped his fingers, "his neighbors said he hadn't been home for a while. We just thought he went on vacation and then was killed by a robber when he came home early." I scratched my head, "I'm still not able to tell what the murder weapon is, the wounds are too clean and too deep for me to determine. Did forensics determine anything for me?" Damian grabbed me by the shoulders, "don't worry so much so quickly. That is how you drive yourself mad over a case. You can't solve it alone, in such a short time, when we have been working on this case for months. But you have made a big leap in the case that my brother did not find. Let forensics and the morgue figure out the weapon for now." I shook my head, "no, I have to figure out something better than just him not killing the victim at their home. The chief is counting on me to help solve it. If I can't then releasing me was pointless and a waste of resources. I mean it took me a month to figure this out. The families need some kind of closure." I continued to pace, even though Damian kept telling me to sit down, I was determined to make a valuable break in this case, "There has to be something else. Was there anything in the biopsy report? Any kind of items on or around the body?" Damian looked at the other officers, they all shrugged. "I don't think we have gotten the report yet," Damian scratched his head, "which is a little weird, this was the latest killing but it usually doesn't take long to get the report." "Well can you let me know once you get it, he may not be leaving anything at the scene but there might be something on the body? He might have a drug or poison in his bloodstream that are not common to this area so that it will be easier to narrow this down." Damian smiled and rubbed my shoulders, "we will look at it together, now let's go check on the chief. Plus you deserve a burrito since you probably burned a lot of calories from pacing so much." I nodded and turned to the other officers, "thank you for your help everyone. I'll bring breakfast for everyone tomorrow." They all smiled back at me, and they even stayed back to clean up the fake scene so that we could go straight to the chief with this info.

Serial killers are listed as serial killers when they commit three or more murders over long periods of time. Usually, they take a small break in between the killings. In most cases, serial killers' motives for their murders are all psychological. Whether it be for gratification, anger, sexual desire, thrill, money, or just seeking attention. Sometimes it is just because of substance abuse from a young age. But many serial killers experienced sexually stressful events when they were children. I never experienced that, which nothing that I listed has to be in someone's background for them to become a sociopathic serial killer. I never suffered from substance abuse, I was never sexually abused, but I did suffer from other forms of abuse. Granted I did not do the number one red flag for a serial killer. I never killed animals as a young girl, I loved animals too much to do that. But most killers start by dissecting small animals, taking pleasure from tearing them apart, but once the pleasure from tearing apart animals goes away they then turn to tearing apart humans to continue that feeling of sick pleasure.
"Can I get the reports for the other ten victims so we can see if they have anything in common?" I said it flat out and then bit into my burrito. He looked at me curiously, "yea, I would like to see them too. What was your symbol by the way? If you don't mind me asking." I didn't want to tell him, but I did it anyway, "I put a teddy bear underneath my victim's right arm." I was ashamed that he knew, but he didn't seem to mind. After all this time he has been so kind and open to me. "It would be a shame if this was all just an act that he is putting on," Ace said with a smirk. It felt like Thorn elbowed him, "don't say those things. You'll kill the romance before it even starts." "My brother was close to the detective on your case, he told me that when they finally caught you that you were in your closet covered in blood. He said you were crying, calling out to invisible people, and that you couldn't stop shaking. Thinking back now those invisible people must have been Thorn and Ace," he looked down at his desk, "when he told me about you being in your closet crying and covered in your family's blood I realized that was your safe space. My brother was more upset with your case file for some reason, but as I said before I just wanted to know who could break the soul of such a young girl. Now I just want to help mend it." He laid his hand on mine. I felt warmth flood my cheeks, "I remember everything that I did, it haunts me. Every time I close my eyes I see their faces..." He grabbed a napkin, "shit, I didn't mean to make you cry again. God, I'm an idiot. I'm your partner I'm not supposed to be doing that. From now on I'm not going to talk about your case file, your experiences, or your past, I swear it." I laughed at him as he wiped a single tear away, "so that's what it feels like?" "How what feels?" he paused. I shed another tear, "to be cared for."

"Cas, that was nine years ago. Things have changed, you have changed. You have finally met people that want to help you, without electroshock therapy or by beating you. You are safe here with them," Thorn reassured me. I don't remember any electroshock therapy or beatings, I remember being left alone. "We took over when that happened so you wouldn't remember," Ace sounded very sad when he added that. When Damian finished apologizing he sat back in his chair and clenched his fists, "you didn't deserve that kind of treatment by those so-called doctors, I know you said that you didn't see a doctor but you had to have some kind of treatment for the records." I shivered and choked back tears, "they..." He grabbed another napkin, "I'll shut up. I'm just making things worse." I held up my hand to stop him, I wasn't going to be a constant cry baby. I have to be strong now. He hugged me this time and slowly petted my head, "mom used to do this to me when I couldn't stop crying. I don't know if it works for you but I thought it was worth a shot." I smiled and sniffed his cologne, "you smell really good." He laughed a little, "thanks. I'm sure suspects would run if I smelled bad." I nodded and just enjoyed his warmth, "I haven't had this in a long time." He stopped smiling, "when was the last time you got a hug?" "When a detective found me in my closet," I started shaking again and his grip tightened. "Hush. It's alright now," he rubbed my head.

A man that was as tan as Damian, a few inches taller, a bit more muscular, with blonde hair that was as long as Damian's, dropped a stack of papers on Damian's desk and startled both of us, the abruptness of his actions snapped me out of my emotional state. "Hey no PDA in the office and why is she here anyway? Shouldn't she be in a holding cell where she belongs?" the man was angry and seemed to hate me. "Stop trying to sink my ship," Ace snapped at him. Damian gritted his teeth but then sighed, "Lance, this is Castiel. I'm sure you know her though, but she is here to help us solve the string of murders that have happened recently. You know the case that we took from you." Lance scowled at me, "don't expect to be treated all special, I'm sure you could do anything in your little asylum, but you can't act like that here." My eyes welled up again, and I just stared at my lap, I felt hollow. Damian noticed my reaction and grabbed Lance by the collar of his shirt, "Lance, she is here to HELP. So stop acting like a jerk and remind her. It wasn't a mushy pillow place, you were not there. You didn't see the things they had in her room." "Oh wow, so I should show some pity to the thoughtless murderer?" "No. You should at least show some kindness to your new coworker." Lance scowled over to me, "she'll always just be a murderer to me. She should have been in an electric chair." That hit me to my core. I couldn't contain myself anymore. I ran out of the station and didn't stop. "Cas!" Damian made a fist towards his brother but instead went after me, "you're lucky we're at work."

I remember my cell, the walls were covered in that soft pillow crap. But there was blood on the walls, my blood. "The orderlies would beat you when you wouldn't respond to their questions," Ace said sadly. "The shock therapy gives you random nose bleeds now," Thorn sounded defeated. I remember that after a year they stopped giving me any attention at all, I received two meals a day and that was the only contact I had. I kept running till I got to an ice cream shop. I walked in and order two scoops of that rainbow ice cream. After that, I just sat in the back softly crying as I ate it. Damian put his coat around me when he got there, "I'm sorry about my brother, are you ok?" I shook my head confused, "how did you even find me?" He rubbed my back as gently as he could, "I have my ways but don't worry. You are not going back there, I'm here for you like I said, and I'll say it a thousand times if I have to and if someone wants you gone then they will have to go through me." I smiled at his words, and whispered, "thank you." Lance already hates me, even though I have yet to do anything personally to him. "What should I do?" I couldn't help but stare sadly at my ice cream. "Well, you need to stop listening to people like my brother. You are trying to live a better life and they are just trying to make you live in the past. You're doing better now and they need to just realize that." I smiled as I bit into my cone, "I know I say this too much but thank you, Damian." "You are welcome Cas," he stood up to go get himself a cone. I think I'm going to like working for the police, well at least working with Damian. I have to admit that I do have a crush on him, and I hope he feels the same way about me eventually. But how am I'm going to help people when I'm constantly being reminded of what I did?

The next morning, "Cas! It's time for us to go to work..." Damian yelled from the hallway, "Cas?" I can't stop trembling, I'm covered in blood. What did I do? I was free, but I did it again. I snapped and I didn't even know it. BANG! I felt the warm blood pool up and start to pour out of the hole in my chest. Who pulled the trigger? As I fell to the floor I saw Damian holding a gun aimed at me, I could see tears welling up in his eyes, "why'd you do it Cas? He was my brother!"

"Agh!" I screamed and bolted upright out of bed. It was just a nightmare, it was only a nightmare. "Cas!" Damian slammed open the door aiming his gun at the closet and the windows. "I'm fine, I'm fine. Just put that thing away. It was just a nightmare. I get them every night," I couldn't help but stare at his gun. He holstered it, "sorry, I uh...made some breakfast. The Chief called and said she has the suspect for you. But uh... i'll just go..." I sighed so heavily, "I never had a nightmare like that befo-" I paused and then realized that when he left his face was red. I looked down and remembered that I was only in my undies. "Oh god!" my face went beet red. He saw me in my undies, and I didn't even have on a bra. I laid back in bed and covered my face with the bedspread, "I'm so stupid. There is no way that I can go talk to him normally. I might as well make this bed my new permanent home."
