Run.
I want to scream at him. Just how much does he want to die?
I grip the silver hilt of my sword, a red gem imbued at its tip. When the sword is filled with divine power, the gem changes into the color of the blazing sun. A mixture of gold in a fiery red.
I stop at a respectable distance from him as the people begin to leave the plaza with my knights' instruction. They didn't need to do much. As soon as Cassian took his hood off, the people began to disperse in fear.
He shoots me a lazy smile. "Am I late?"
I draw my sword out, an unamused expression written on my face. "Seeing your excitement to meet your death, yes, you are terribly late, Your Highness."
My silver blade glints as the rays of the sun hit it. The sword itself has a simple appearance. The only indication of it being special is the gem and its ability to morph into any weapon I desire. It was a gift from Diem on my debutante, sent through an oracle.
"My, how rude of me," he grins.
There are many things I find pleasant when it comes to his personality. Right now, he's just plain annoying. I didn't bother to hide the displeasure in my voice as I notice the sky dim with it.
"Enough, Cassian."
"Captain!" Aspen, the knight who ran up the stairs earlier joins the knights around me facing the mages.
We're at a stand-off, making sure the civilians are out of sight and unharmed.
This thought baffles me. Why would the Supreme care about the people getting harmed in a fight that means they're going to give their all? I could tell he is waiting until the people are out of sight. He wasn't supposed to know about the plan of the Holy Knights but because my letter tipped him off he is able to let his guard up.
But the mages with him are few, they're clearly outnumbered. Are the others in the shadows? The alleys?
Freya steps up to whisper something in my ear. "Captain, something about this is peculiar. These are the only mages he brought. We scouted the area and we saw not one black mage, besides them."
I narrow my eyes at the pronounced traitor. What are you planning?
"Are you going to just stand there? The day is ending," he says, clearly enjoying the that I'm confused even though it doesn't show on my face.
I shouldn't have gotten so close to him. He knows me too much.
And people tell you to get a friend. Such a pain.
"You shouldn't be worried about the day ending."
As soon as the last word escaped my mouth the mages surge forward, weapons in hand.
Weapons? Not magic? Spells?
The fight begins in a matter of seconds. Bloodshed is everywhere but none of them are from my knights. It is almost as if the mages didn't even bother to fight with all their might. Like it is just for show. It wouldn't be an exaggeration to say that they are throwing themselves at my knights' swords. I have just gotten rid of another black mage in front of me or more of like he got rid of himself by running straight into the tip of my sword.
This isn't right. Almost all of them seemed like they're purposely not using their magic.
It wouldn't take a genius to figure it out. They are here to die with him.
My eyes catch Cassian surrounded by my knights, barely doing anything to defend himself.
I grit my teeth. "Knights! I told you to leave the Prince to me!" I shout at them.
At the sound of my voice, they just look at me, eyes frantic. As I got closer, I notice that their bodies are trembling. Their movements are stiff. I immediately shift my attention to the person staring at me mischievously.
"Let them go, Cassian," I warn, my hand gripping the hilt of my sword tighter, my voice a pitch lower.
He shows no sign of heeding it. His eyes glow red, a sign of him using magic.
"Don't you cherish them, Eve? Would you like me to show you what it feels like to lose someone you cherish?" he taunts.
What. is he doing? He isn't like this at all!
My eyes widen as I begin to comprehend what his plan is. You.
He raises his hand in the air and as if on cue, so did my knights.
My heart thumps in my chest. My grip on my sword tightens even more, my palm must be bone-white by now.
"Tell me, My Lady," he chimes. "Will you sacrifice their lives for a traitor?"
"C-C-Cap-Captain!" Aspen stutters out.
"I-I don't want to die!"
"Captain, please save me!"
"I didn't say goodbye to my child"
Freya. She just became a mother...
"I couldn't kiss my mom goodbye" Dion...
The cries of my knights fill my ears and for a moment they are all I hear. I see red threads of light wrap around each of their necks choking them. Their tears fall down with their swords as their veins begin to pop out of their foreheads and their eyes bulge out. Dion can't even utter a single word anymore.
I know he wouldn't stop. There is only one possible ending to this -- his death. I'm still a bit far from where they are, I wouldn't make it on time if I use a sword as a weapon.
Through trembling hands, I will my sword to morph into a silver bow with an arrow already strung onto it.
"Let.them.go.Cassian. I won't ask again." I draw the string back as I hold my breath.323Please respect copyright.PENANABQrr8gdyWu
