The elevator dinged open and the man waiting stepped into the empty space, punching the button that would take him to his work floor. He looked into the metallic wall of the elevator and saw his bright blue eyes and his clean-shaven face were clean and fresh. Looking nice as always there, Finnegen, he thought, glancing at his smooth brown-silver hair hair that he styled in a curl over his eyes. Always keeping the sides short-cut. He smiled at himself and looked out as the elevator dinged open once again, this time on his floor. He walked out, straightening his black hand-tailored suit and bowtie.
He strode purposefully with the gait of a federal agent to his squad room. It was a comfortable open desk area lined by mid-shoulder walls. He arrived at his L shaped desk, which held two monitors and all his needed resources. He set his backpack down, removing the cups of coffee and setting it on his agents desk. He smirked to himself and sat down, jumping back into his work from the previous day.
"Good morning, Finnegen." The voice made him look up. He knew her voice by heart, and she usually greeted him with his first name. He watched as his agent came in and picked up the coffee, raising an eyebrow in his direction.
"Oh come on, Elinor, am I not allowed to get my team coffee in the morning?" Collimore stood up and smiled, "Good morning. Any Idea where Tuffin and Scye are?"
"No Idea, sir. Last time I saw them was last night as we were walking out." The woman looked back at him after sitting in her chair, her golden-blonde hair in a neat braid. Her piercing brown eyes swept over his suit making her smile and shake her head when Collimore looked back to his computer screen.
"What's wrong with my suit?" He asked without looking up.
"How did you know that I-" She laughed, "Nothing is wrong with it, sir. It's just kind of funny seeing you wear a bowtie instead of just a normal tie."
Collimore grinned. "Trying a new style. Looks bad?" The elevator dinged open again and he looked over by habit. He watched as his other two agents walked in side by side. Like always. "Good morning!" He called out to them as they walked into the squad room.
"Good morning, Collimore." The man, Markus Scye, said. The woman smiled and nodded at the rest of team. Scye turned to her and quirked an eyebrow, obviously concerned, but saying nothing.
Collimore wasn't as silent. He looked over his computer and leaned back in his chair. "Tuffin, anything wrong? You seem distracted."
"What? Oh, no, sorry Colli. Nothing is wrong. I'm just..." She glanced at Scye, and smiled. "Just didn't get a lot of sleep last night."
Collimore shared a knowing look with agent Bishop.
Collimore called Scye to follow him as he stood up from his desk and headed behind the stairs that led up to the office level. As soon as he heard Scye stop he whipped around, his face now changed in anger. He stepped up to his agent, knowing his taller, stronger appearance was threatening.
"Why did Tuffin look at you? Hmm?" Collimore hissed, glaring down at the agent.
Scye looked taken aback by the current angered state of his leader. He rarely saw Collimore angry. "Collimore I-I can explain! I swear it isn't what you think!" He shuddered and took a step back. "No, I wouldn't get into a relationship like that."
Collimore narrowed his eyes to slits. "I would hope not. I would hope that my agents would be better than that. Are you one-hundred percent sure I can trust you at your word?"
Now it was Scye's turn to glare. "Yes, Collimore. You can trust me. I'm disgusted that you would even fucking consider-"
"I CONSIDER IT BECAUSE I'VE SEEN HOW CLOSE YOU TWO HAVE GOTTEN!" Collimore looked behind him self-consciously, knowing he had just yelled. Scye looked down and sighed, knowing he was right. Collimore took a deep breath and sighed. "I'm sorry, Scye. I'm just making sure that you aren't breaking agency regulations and my rules." He tilted his head, indicating for Scye to recite the rule.
"Rule 10: do not be in a relationship with another agent from the agency."
Collimore nodded his satisfaction and led the way back to the squad room. He was well aware of the stare from Tuffin but shook his head. Don't mention it.
The phone rang, its piercing shriek making Collimore groan, yet he raised an eyebrow at it. Nobody called Collimore unless it's important. He sighed, gripping the phone and holding it to his ear. He prepped his notepad and held his pen in hand as he took the call. "FBI Special Agent Collimore." His eyes squinted out the window as the caller started talking. "What? That's not- no. No sir, how?" He started scribbling quickly on his notepad. His face changed drastically from surprise to anger and back again. He audibly gasped and shook his head, getting more concerned by the minute. The agents on his team looked at each other and watched the leader intently.
"Understood. We'll be there within thirty minutes." There was a pause as Collimore listened. "Sir, are you sure about this? It could be anything." With a grim look covering his face, Collimore nodded and said a quick goodbye to the caller. He looked up at each of his agents. "Grab your gear." The agents practically sprang from their chairs and grabbed their SIG's from their desk and their blue FBI coats. They flung their coats on and holstered their sidearms as the trained group headed for the elevator.
"Where to, Collimore?" Agent Tuffin asked as the four stepped into the elevator.
Collimore shrugged, "I don't have an exact location. All I know is that there was a mass shooting."
Bishop stared at him in horror. "A what? Surely I heard wrong!"
"I just received a call from the director." He paused, squinting. "Two shootings occurred all along the same road. He said he expected there to be more. There was a gun fight, nine dead, two injured." The elevator opened to face the car garage and they walked out. They quickly walked to the dark car as Collimore continued explaining. "We will be the point investigation. Happened and started on Main Street. This isn't the worst part." Collimore's face turned grim. "One of the dead is..."
"Who?"
"Agent Almond." The silence that followed was heartbreaking. They all now were grim.
Agent Scye said after a few minutes. "Are we sure it's him?"
Collimore nodded. "I'm sorry Markus. They had positive identification. That's one of the reasons we are being called in."
"But he-" Scye was visibly struggling, his hands were clenched into fists, his breathing had grown heavier. "Almond was..." He shuddered and his face was contorted in rage and sadness.
"I know. I'm sorry." Collimore glanced at the rest of his team, trying to gauge the new morale and how much it would effect his team. I knew this would happen. Collimore sighed and opened the car door, indicating that the team should do the same. They followed suit silently, all lost in their own thoughts and memories of the deceased agent.
Collimore turned the agency car on and pulled out of the building, punching in coordinates into the GPS. The robotic British-accented female voice told him directions every few minutes. Not that he needed it for directions, he wanted something to fill the hole of silence throughout the car. Something to help them stay focused.
It was about fifteen minutes later that anyone said a word. "Why was he there? What was he doing there? Do we have any information?"
"No Bishop," Collimore replied, glancing into the rear-view mirror at her then looking back to the road. "We have very little info. That's gonna be our job to find out. Now, we arrive in ten minutes, I want to have something done before then. Scye, search Almond's phone records. Bishop, I want you to call the local LEOs and get any information you can from them. Also please find out which hospitals our injured have been admitted to. Tuffin arrange for the bodies to be transferred and figure out everything you can about what's happened. I want everything, clear?"
"On it."192Please respect copyright.PENANADBgzdG43GJ
"Yes, sir."192Please respect copyright.PENANARDH9okvod0
"Got it."
"There isn't anything in his phone records that we would think is out of ordinary. Checking for any known numbers now. Also for repeated numbers." Reported Scye as the car made its way through the traffic.
Tuffin hung up on her phone call and turned her head to face Collimore. "Bodies will be transferred directly to autopsy after inspection at the scene. Dr. Demen is coming to the scene, right?"
"Correct. The director called him right after he called me. He'll be arriving shortly after us, I believe." Collimore looked into the mirror. "Bishop got an update?"
The blonde agent held up a finger and said a thank you on the phone before hanging up. "Local LEOs say that they arrived after the fire fight finished. There were few witnesses and the ones that were at the scene when it happened scattered quickly and most likely are far away by now. The LEOs are currently trying to prevent civilians from getting close to the scene. The crowds are growing." She looked up and winced. "You aren't going to like this next part, Collimore. There are quite a few media trucks around the scene."
Collimore groaned. "Just what we need. Media." He sighed and shook his head. "Okay, scene is about a block away. We can't get any further by car." He parked the car on the side of the street. "Let's go." The team picked up their backpacks and got out of the car. Immediately the silent went to a loud throng of people, cars, and wind.
"Collimore! How the hell are we going to get through that!" Scye motioned towards the packed square.
Collimore simply shook his head and started out towards the scene. "FBI! MOVE!" He started shouting, making his way glaringly through the opening crowd. Immediately media teams turned their attention on the agents.
"Sir, is the FBI taking lead in this investigation?"192Please respect copyright.PENANA2JlRQnzjtD
"What is your first thoughts about this case?"192Please respect copyright.PENANAsH5JoRh60X
"Anything you would like to say?"
The questions came faster and in a blur. "Move." Collimore replied, staring the media crews down. "No comment." Collimore shook his head and pushed through the group.
"ID please." One of the cops said.
"FBI Special agent Collimore." He held up his badge and his ID. "Agents Bishop, Tuffin, and Scye."
"Thank you, sir. Go on through." The cop lifted the crime scene tape and allowed the four to walk through.
The awaiting sight filled their vision up quickly. Causing even Collimore to stop in his tracks. What the hell happened here?
