"You are a human," The being replied coldly. "And humans are a scourge upon this land. You deserve to die for your mere existence."
With a final fierce swipe, Karma sent Kai flying backwards through the air. Kai landed with a thud, his back aching from the force of the impact. He watched in horror as Karma launched towards him, its claws bared and ready for the kill.
Despite the odds stacked against him, Kai refused to give up. He dug deep within himself for a strength he didn't know he had, calling forth a power that seemed to rise from within him. The power of nature, of the very soil beneath his feet, seemed to rise up and answer his call. Kai let out a fierce cry, and from deep within the earth came a rush of energy, the earth itself rising to protect its master.
Kai's power flared, and in a blinding flash, a massive stream of energy burst forth from the earth, striking Karma full on. The angel was sent flying backwards, its body scorched and smoking as it rolled to a stop.
Kai stood there, panting heavily from the exertion, his heart pounding in his chest. He had no idea where that power had come from - he had never used magic before, and never even known he could. But he was grateful for it - it had saved his life.
Karma struggled to his feet, the power of his magical attacks still coursing through him. He raised his head to see Kai standing over him, a look of defiance in his eyes.
"You're a tough little human," Karma said, a hint of respect in his voice. "I didn't think you'd be able to survive my attacks."
Kai met Karma's gaze, a steely determination in his eyes. "I'm not someone you can just walk all over," he said, his voice strong. "I'll do whatever it takes to protect those I care about."
