I've never really been a fan of public transportation. I'm what you'd call agoraphobic, I hate being in places where it'd be hard for me to escape due to my anxiety. Due to my predicament, I've been seeing a therapist since I was ten years old, now eight years later she thinks I'm ready to take the bulls by the horn and face my fears. Deep down I feel I'm ready, but I hope I won't regret it.
It was a cool evening in the ever buzzing New York City. After a tiring and stressful day at school, the thought of going home had never felt so pleasing, but somehow I dreaded it. I had already promised my mom and therapist that I was going to going to get on the subway.
As I walked to the subway station, I could feel the drizzle of the rain touch my face and the sky looked cloudy. I immediately quickened my footstep to prevent myself from getting drenched.
I got to the station, paid, and immediately got into the subway and we immediately started the journey. I was sweating profusely and my breathing was slightly unstable, so I started breathing through my mouth in and out. I continued the breathing strategy for two more minutes and I became slightly calm. I was no longer tensed!
Observing, everything and everyone around me, the subway wasn't bad at all. I found it fascinating how sometimes the place would get dark and immediately become bright when we've passed a particular spot. It was pretty cool and it saved money.
The sound of the subway making a loud screech and stopping suddenly brought me out of my daydream. At first, I wasn't worried, I thought the whole situation was normal but when I started to see panic written all over the faces of the fellow passengers, I knew something was wrong.
Standing up from my seat, I walked closer to where people were gathered trying to understand what all the ruckus was all about and I immediately screamed when I saw the lifeless body of a man, who looked like he was attacked and viscously eaten by a wild animal.
How would a wild animal get into the subway, I thought?
"We need to get out of here, it's not safe", a middle-aged woman said as she grabbed her purse and tried to open the door. The door refused to open, no matter how hard she tried.
"What are we going to do?", a man asked loudly.
Everyone in the subway started chattering in worried voices trying to find a solution and that's when the scariest thing happened, the lights went off and we heard a loud bang coming from the back.
I screamed, but I couldn't even hear myself as everyone else did the same thing. I could barely see anything but I could hear the sound of bones being crunched as if it was being eaten, to make matters worse blood was splashing everywhere that it touched me a few times.
Quickly I ran forward and tangled myself up with the wave of people who were banging on the door. We heard an animalistic growl and we all turned back and that was when we saw the piercing green eyes of what we assumed to be the wild creature.
Its skin was green, crooked, and rough. It had pointed and gnarly teeth dripping with blood, that looked extremely sharp. The nails were the longest I'd ever seen in my life and I watched as it grabbed yet another passenger and squeezed the life out of the person.
All we could do was scream, there was no escaping this monster. The green eyes of the monster flashed and he ran in our direction. "I shouldn't have gotten on the subway", was what I repeated as the monster approached us and finally attacked.
