Three days later, I have to sneak out of the training area. I go back to the clearing and find Lucifer waiting there, eating those purple berries.
"How are you able to eat those and I'm not?" I ask, pointing at him. I walk over and sit down on a log. "That's just not fair."
"Because, I am a demon, and I am basically already dead." He grins a toothy, purplish smile. "That's why."
"Mm. That's nice, smart elect."
"Ha. Um, how much longer do you think we'll be able to keep this up?"
"Why do you say that?"
"I'm saying that because I am also supposed to be at training for the arena right now."
"Ohhhh, okay. And why didn't you tell me that on the first day?"
"Because I didn't think it mattered, but I now realize it does."
"That's not a very great answer. But, okay." I sigh. "But why do you think we won't be able to do this much longer?"
"Because, Charmeine. You should know we're not allowed to be around each other. It's bad enough that we'd be abandoned in our own worlds if we don't prove ourselves. Do you not realize how bad it would be if we were to be caught hanging out together like this? It'd be really bad. And I mean really bad."
"I think it's stupid that we aren't able to hang out with each other," I mutter. "And plus, I'm in love with you. I realized that the other day." I look up to see his eyes as big as saucers and his mouth gaping open.
"What? Did you seriously just say that you were in love with me?"
I shrug unconsciously. "Is there anything wrong with that?"
He walks over and sits down beside me. "How could I ever decline from such a beautiful young lady?"
"I don't understand."
Suddenly, he puts both of his hands on both sides of my face and before I understand what's going on, he kisses me. I suddenly feel like I'm melting.

As soon as I plant my lips on hers, I feel a sensation almost as if I'm in heaven, even though I know that will never happen. I really hope my father doesn't find out about this, or I am in serious trouble. I pull away just as her eyes flutter open. Yes, her eyes. That was the first thing that hit me when I first saw her. They're such a piercing, intense blue. And then I saw her curves. How badly she has them.
"Um, I should probably go," she whispers, biting her lip in the process. "It's getting dark."
I look behind us. "Oh, yeah. You're right. Um, maybe see you tomorrow?"
"Uh, maybe. Bye." She turns and runs. I watch as she disappears in the distance.
I get up and grab my stuff. I head back home, snatching a handful of berries on my way.
