Henlo beautiful pipol! I got an idea for a contest. I am one of those who love to read dark, intense, eerie, and weird internal monologues with a twist (like the one in American Psycho where Bateman introduces himself). I, myself, want to learn how to write immersive internal monologues. Hopefully, I can learn a lot from incredible writers such as yourselves.

Prompt:

1.) Write a monologue

2.) Unlimited word count (you do you, my friend)

3.) Topics to draw inspiration: Optional

a.) A self-introduction that starts off wholesome and ends with a horrific truth

b.) A monologue where he regrets his decision, but at the end, he actually didn’t

c.) A confession

If you got a different topic in mind, the BETTER. I encourage you to make your own topic for the monologue, as long as it hits that dark, twisted, revelation, cliff-hanger, thought-provoking( idk how to describe it) effect.

To those who haven’t heard of Patrick Bateman’s monologue, here it is:

I live in the American Gardens building on West 81st street. My name is Patrick Bateman. I'm 27 years old. I believe in taking care of myself, and a balanced diet and a rigorous exercise routine. In the morning, if my face is a little puffy, I'll put on an ice pack while doing my stomach crunches. I can do a thousand now. After I remove the ice pack, I use a deep pore cleanser lotion. In the shower, I use a water activated gel cleanser. Then a honey almond body scrub. And on the face, an exfoliating gel scrub. Then apply an herb mint facial mask, which I leave on for 10 minutes while I prepare the rest of my routine. I always use an aftershave lotion with little or no alcohol, because alcohol dries your face out and makes you look older. Then moisturizer, then an anti-aging eye balm followed by a final moisturizing protective lotion. There is an idea of a Patrick Bateman, some kind of abstraction, but there is no real me. Only an entity, something illusory. And though I can hide my cold gaze, and you can shake my hand and feel flesh gripping yours and maybe you can even sense our life styles are probably comparable, I simply am not there.

I want you to write the coolest, most dramatic, best prologue you can think of.

Eyes steeled and dark, Cameo Zachary Hunt stared at his reflection in the cracked mirror, taking a moment to collect himself and all of his fractured, stray thoughts for the day he had ahead of him. He was finally doing it, setting out on the mission he probably should have left for a month and a half earlier. But one day passed after the other, and before he knew it, spring had come and gone, summer suddenly offering its bright self to the world. He couldn't put it off any longer, at least that's what he forced himself to think, because he knew if he didn't find some deep down catalyst, he'd never bring himself to do what he needed to do.

He closed his eyes, let out a sigh, and forced himself to glance up once more, fingers tearing through carefully styled hair for the last time before he would push himself to step into an incredibly bipolar gray area.

"I'm coming to make this right, Fin," he whispered to the girl long lost to him. "I swear to you."
