This past year, our yearbook committee asked 72 people over the span of 5 lunch periods what they would do if they weren't afraid. The answers ranged from the ridiculous to the truly heartbreaking.

You have as many words, as many paragraphs as you would like to shatter my cold dead heart. Write from the soul. Let me feel your fear, and let me understand what it would mean to you to do what you've always been afraid of.

A contest ending just after Halloween! You have your choice from these prompts and story starters. There is no limit, and you may write one story for each prompt/story starter. Be sure to quote which prompt you are using!

1. Pretend that you are a jack-o-lantern. Write about Halloween from a jack-o-lantern's point of view.

Some things in life come in sixes. Hexagons, for example. Write a story in 6 sentences with an obvious conflict that centers around hexagons. It must be only 6 sentences, in the point of view of a middle or high schooler. You have 2 weeks. Good luck, and have fun!

Create a 55-word story(including the title). This contest is just to see how creative anyone can be. A story can start and end in just a few words. You can write about anything you want.

For this contest describe someone - anyone - through somebody else's eyes. It can be yourself, a friend, a boyfriend/crush, even a celebrity, just no fictional characters please. It can be in any situation at any time, but please keep it PG. You don't have to say who your describing, but if you do please put the name at the end, especially if it is someone well known. You can make as many entries as you want, just have fun with it.

I must admit, when I begin a story or a fanfiction or really anything, I usually begin with a certain emotion. I never, ever write out a plan, I just sit down with one specific emotion eating away at my brain. As I sit wondering how to pass the emotion through to my readers I begin seeing images, characters and settings.

For this contest I would like everyone to write a short story in hopes of passing a message to your readers. It can be the ache in your heart as your lover says goodbye, or a low throbbing pain resting in your head. It can be anything a feeling, an emotion or even just a message.

There is no word limitations. Just sit, write and enjoy. If you guys could put the message (or emotion/feeling) for the title that would be great, then the readers can properly let you know if you were successful with your goal!

Everyone has some place in the physical world or their imagination that they like to go to simply get away from the struggles of life. These places give us the fresh air we need to deal with our troubles, even if they aren't real.

I like to call my page The Sanctuary, but it is one of many, imaginary and real. So, I ask you to describe one of your sanctuaries, whether it is real or not. Use as many words as you'd like. I'll read even the longest entry, but be descriptive of how this place helped you when you needed it, though you don't need to be specific.

Now, because of the variety of entries that this topic can receive, the winner should be determined by how profoundly their sanctuary helped them and not how amazing the place is. To start, I will give mine below without much description, if you'd like an example. Good luck to all participants!

When I can't take a stroll through a forest or simply don't feel like leaving my home, I visit a place in my mind with no particular name. It is a quaint cottage in a large meadow that changes with my wants and needs. I can be alone or with company here. I can do anything or nothing, which is what I usually choose. I can organize my thoughts or let them go with the wind that drifts through, rustling the surrounding trees. This place has helped me in times of stress, when I needed nothing more than to be with nature, when no one could understand my restless desire to just run into the woods and do nothing. Now, in college, I can find solace in the neighboring forests and rest by rivers without care for frivolous things. This is my sanctuary. What is yours?

A man asked the lifeguard of the beach whether there are any sea plants in the water.

The lifeguard told him that there are rarely any sea plants in the water because the beach is famous for its clear water.

After a moment of thought, the man kneeled down and started crying uncontrollably.

So this little challenge is where you have to describe a single color without, of course, using the name of the color anywhere except for the title of the issue. Try to get at least 100 words.
