Why Join?

For this writing contest there will not be a specific theme. The minimum words count is going to be 300 and the max will be 1500. After the contest is complete I will announce 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place a couple of days later.

Write a poem in response to something. It could be a song, a speech, a book, another poem... anything that someone has thought and verbalized you can respond to in poem. 1) The protagonist and their family are always constantly fighting, but after the beginning of the apocalypse, they are forced to live in a bunker together. What challenges arise?

2) A scientist creates a virus that increases intelligence but is also extremely lethal, which starts killing off half the population.
