This is going to sound ridiculous. And I’m never going to say he is my only role model. Because there are obviously better, more… deep? and meaningful choices.
But Winnie the Pooh honestly knows how to live.
He makes his own choices. He acknowledges his faults and frustrations. He knows what and who he likes and goes to achieve his goals.
Over the years he has had some amazing quotes:
“A hug is always the right size.”
“If you live to be a hundred, I hope I live to be a hundred minus one day, so that I never have to live a day without you.”
“You can't stay in your corner of the Forest waiting for others to come to you. You have to go to them sometimes.”
This is amazing advice. He has the mind of a secure child who knows how he wishes to be. That is something I wish to achieve. I wish to look around at my little life and smile, knowing the important things are all accounted for.
Pooh lives in a little two-bedroom house. He doesn’t have much, nor does he strive for ambitious pitfalls. He is often mocked by the narrator for having “small brains.” But perhaps, it is really jealousy that we, with all of our brains cannot achieve the same happiness. Pooh knows what it is to truly love and be loved. He knows how to fight for the right things and how to let go of other stuff.
He is warm and loving and kind. Simple to please. But also, content. Should I raise children in such simple pleasures I know they would be content as well.
Winnie the Pooh teaches me to pull back the layers and see what a need truly is.
And I think, after much thought. I think it is this, “How lucky am I to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.” Whether that be a little love, a big love or a very good memory. Simplicity doesn’t always mean naivety. It can also mean peace when there’s less things buzzing around inside my head.
You know what? Pooh is a masterful choice.
Let us all find our favourite simple meal. Let us all know what it is to love truthfully. Let us all have cute catch phrases and sayings. I truly do wish I could wear the same shirt every day.
Because maybe – just maybe.
We can finally learn happiness is the connection of souls and laughter.
Thankyou Pooh.
I love you.
