The showcase was just about to start, Katherine still wasn't back. I was starting to worry but I didn't want to wait out front because then I'd just seem too protective. So I waited, sitting on the stage, hoping she'd show up. Finally someone came inside the auditorium, and it was Katherine. I stared at her closely, seeing if there were any signs of her being upset. But she looked fine.
"Katherine, you're late," one of her friends said
"Almost late," Katherine said with a smile, "Don't worry, I'll change quickly,"
She seemed so unbothered, so I thought I was overreacting before and I felt bad for acting a little cold to Katherine earlier. That still didn't mean my feelings about Logan changed at all.
Right when Katherine was about to rush to the backstage classroom she stood in front of me. She didn't say anything and we just stared at each other for a while.
"Katherine?" I said, I didn't expect myself to speak up first, it just slipped out. "I think you'll do good, you've worked really hard,"
Katherine smiled a little. "Thank you…you've worked hard too,"
We then heard someone call her name and she rushed off without another word.
My mind went back to Katherine and the drums. I began to take in each detail that day. The dust on the drum cover, how new the drums looked, Katherine's face at the mention of her brother. It only made sense to me then that Katherine hadn't played the drums since he died, seeing the drums was like a painful memory to her. But then why did she show me? Had she wanted to tell someone in the first place? I began to feel that there was a lot Katherine wanted to say but she still covered it up anyway. I wanted her to trust me. And to tell me everything she wants to say. But that was asking too much. That was like asking for thousands of dollars. You couldn't get all of that. At least not in a short amount of time.
