As Jason laid on the ground, he looked up to the starry skies, wishing, hoping that he would meet her again. Mark still couldn't believe that he actually saw her, in the flash and so couldn't Jason. He thought that she was a vivid image of his dreams trying to tell him something. Something important.
Suddenly Jason heard a soft whistle. He got up slowly trying not to wake everyone else. The others were all inside their own tents so he should be fine. He walked slowly to the tree and touch the trunk, stroking it slowly.
" I don't understand you," Jason said softly.
The tree whistled again, this time it was a soft whistle but one that could hurt the ear.
Jason covered his ears.
Suddenly he heard a voice.
" Jason."
His eyes grew wide, he could see a woman. A beautiful woman with long brown hair and blue eyes.
" Who are you?" Jason asked.
The woman smiled softly. " I'm the tree."
" What?" Jason blurted.
The woman chuckled. " I'm not really a tree but I was put under a curse and turned into a whistling tree. You are only seeing a mirage of who I used to be."
Jason's mouth couldn't close.
" I need to tell you something before I leave."
Jason nodded.
" The girl you saw before, she is my daughter. She is the princess of Riodinidae. The realm we come from."
" Realm?"
The woman nodded. " Everything was peaceful and my daughter was a warrior which fought well. But one day a witch came into our realm, she cursed the land and made my husband fall in love with her. She cursed me, a curse worse than death, but I managed to turn into a whistling tree instead. My daughter was kept as a warrior since her skills aren't comparable, but I fear something bad will happen to her."
To this Jason's face twitched. " What could happen exactly?"
The woman's face saddened. " A person dear to my daughter was taken, hostage. The queen took him and made a deal with my daughter. If she married her son and stopped being a warrior princess, she would release him. But I fear something bad will happen to my baby girl."
To the word him, Jason's heart throbbed painfully.
" Why are you telling me all this?" He asked.
The woman smiled softly and reacher out her hand and touched Jason's cheek.
" Because I believe you can save her."
" How?"
She shook her head slowly. " I don't know."
Jason's eyes fell down to his feet.
" I'm not allowed in the realm ma'am. You heard your daughter."
The woman chuckled. " My daughter has a huge pride and she believes that the witch entering the realm was her fault for not being on her post."
Jason thought for a moment and clenched his fist.
" I'm not sure what I can do Ma'am, but I want to try and save your daughter. I dream of her every day."
Jason put a hand on his mouth, he shouldn't have said that.
The woman smiled softly. " I don't know how you are connected to my daughter young man but you are and that's what's important. Please save my daughter."
Jason nodded and the woman disappeared.
When he turned his head towards the others, nothing changed, everyone was still in their own tent.
He looked up at the stars and saw a beautiful bright light, coming out of a star.
" I will save you." He whispered.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A month has passed since Maeve's mother appeared in front of Jason.
He searched everything he could, but he never found anything believable.
His mother was worried about him, she never saw her son so riled up since 10 years ago after he got lost in the forest.
" Jason, what's going on?" She asked him while watching him putting things in a bag.
Jason turned to his mother and sighed.
" You won't believe me if I told you."
Jason's mother smiled and put her hand on his cheek.
" You won't know unless you try."
Jason nodded and after sitting on his bed he told his mother everything.
She didn't falter or looked worried, she simply nodded and listened to his every word.
After he finished she sighed.
" I didn't know the time would come so soon."
" What Time? You believe me?" He asked her.
His mother smiled and patted his head.
" It's time to tell you about your father."
She walked towards the window and looked beyond, looking at the forest up the hill.
" Your father wasn't from here. I never truly knew where he was from, to be honest."
She said almost whispering to herself.
Jason got up and walked towards his mother. She kept looking outside without turning to face her son.
" He told me he was from up that hill, I used to hear him telling you stories about it when you were born. Stories about fairies, magic, and stuff. I always thought that they were just that, stories, until he suddenly disappeared, leaving only a note."
" A note?" Jason asked.
His mother nodded. " It disappeared when I read it."
" What did it say?"
At this his mother turned around, her eyes filled with tears.
" It said: I will always return to you, always. You and Jason are my home. But I need to go back and face my fear. A fear which couldn't take me away from you forever. I will always love you. Wait for me."
Jason's mother covered her face, crying. Crying about her beloved husband never came back after all these years. Crying about the feeling she has that he will never come back.
Jason hugged his mother and told her that everything will be alright.
After calming down his mother put her hands on her son's cheeks.
" You have to go."
Jason almost shook his head, he couldn't leave his mother.
" Please. Save her and maybe you will save your father. It's something only you can do."
She smiled softly and helped him pack his bags.
When everything was packed, they walked down and opened the door.
" I'll come back for sure. Trust me." Jason said, determined.
His mother smiled softly and nodded.
Jason hugged his mother and jogged towards the road, with one last wave, he started to walk up the hill.
Jason's mother looked at her son walking up the hill, with tears in her eyes.
" Please look after him, Vincent." She whispered looking up ahead towards the hill.
