POV Wren
I heard the door open downstairs and then voices, the doors closed, footsteps, walking upstairs.
Leo and Daniel came into the room, "Hey Jack, whats up?" Daniel said.
"Hey" came from Leo.
"Hi to you too guys," I said to them.
"So, guys what song shall we pick?" Jack said.
"We don't know, that's why we met up," Leo said.
"Yeah, but we need to pick a song," said Daniel.
"You have any ideas, Jack?" I asked him since he hadn't suggested any songs, yet he was the one that seemed to want to pick one the most.
"No," he said.
"Do you have any suggestions Wren?" he said coolly.
"No," I said "Daniel, Leo you have any?"
"Apart from Imagine Dragons," came from Daniel,
"And Taylor Swift," Leo said,
"No," they said at the same time.
"Jeez, guys do you realise how creepy that was?" I said, "Wait are you guys, brothers?"
"Nope," Daniel said.
"Are you related in any kind of way?" I asked.
"Nope," Leo said.
"But then how did you two do the whole reading each other's mind thing?" I said confused.
"Magicians never tell their secrets," Leo said and then Jack butted in "Guys stop showing off, just because you have a girl around,"
Leo scowled while Daniel looked and the floor whistling.
My eyes widened and once again I became an awkward antisocial teenager.
Jack seemed amused and smirked "So what song? Romance? Seems to fit the mood,"
"Noooooo," I said at bit too against it.
Jack raised his eyebrows "What do you have against Romance?"
"Nothing, just romance songs are like 99.9 percent rubbish, no offence Shawn," I said awkwardly.
"Whose Shawn?" Leo said frowning.
"Is he your boyfriend?" Daniel said slightly too enthusiastic.
Jack rolled his eyes and muttered something "We're getting slightly off track now, song? Any suggestions?"
"Wait, Leo Daniel what do you guys do?" I asked them.
"I sing," he said.
"And I play the guitar and sing," Daniel said.
"Ok, cool," I said.
I thought of the song Quarter Past Midnight, the drums would be perfect, and Leo could sing, and guitar would be good an then there is the piano part. Wren shut the fuck up! They don't know you play the piano remember Fuck.
I considered suggesting the song, and in the end, I said: "How about the song Quarter Past Midnight?"
"What song is that?" Daniel asked.
"Look it up," I said.
Jack pulled out his phone and searched it up, I waited anxiously rubbing my sweaty palms together. Would they like the song, or would they think it was a stupid idea? Damn, I shouldn't have suggested it...
I heard the song start playing out of his speakers, Bluetooth I'm guessing.
I immediately got the urge to start tapping my foot and mouthing the words, but I'm not supposed to be interested in music remember?
I waited until the song finished waiting for someone to say something.
"I like that, that could work," Jack said.
"Yeah, we'll use that one yeah?" Daniel said.
"What?" I said confused, this wasn't meant to happen. They were meant to hate it.
"Ok, cool, that's sorted then I'll be going," I said, I just wanted to get back to my home, my bedroom where everything stayed the same and it wasn't confusing. I went over to the corner and picked up my school bag and made to go out of the room. But Jack blocked the door.
"Move," I said frowning.
"Look I know you're going to miss us lots but we need to decide on what you are going to do in the group," he said.
I rolled my eyes but backed away from the door, I just wanted to go home, was that too much to ask?
"What could she do?" Daniel said.
"Guys, I'm right here," I said.
"Oh god, I didn't realise that, sorry Wren!" Jack said being sarcastic.
"Come on, hurry up guys," I said.
"She could sing?" said Leo.
"Nope," I said crossing my arms against my chest and tapping my foot impatiently on the ground. I know I was being a right bitchy madam, but who gives a fuck anyway? I don't, everyone knows I'm a bitch anyway and if I am I might as well be good at it.
"Ok, she's singing," Jack said.
Right, I was fed up with them, "Bye" I said and walked out the bedroom door. I walked down the stairs into the small hallway. I opened the door just as I heard some footsteps rush down the stairs, I quickly stepped outside the door and closed it behind me.
It was nice to feel the cool breeze on my face and it felt sort of calming. I heard the door open behind me, but I kept walking.
"Hey! Wren," I heard Jack call out behind me.
I paused for a second before turning around, what could Jack want?
"Look you forgot this," he said and passed me a book.
"Uh, ok?" I said I looked at the book and read the title How to Write Music, it said. I looked up to give it back to Jack but just then the door slammed shut.
Damn you little bastard, I'll get you back. But I smiled, don't ask why I just did. I held the book in my arms and began to walk home.
***
"Hello?" I said as I walked through the door.
There was no reply, I sighed and slipped my shoes off. I walked into the kitchen and turned the lights off, I peeked into the living room (which was connected to the kitchen) to see if Mum was there. She wasn't.
I sighed again. I looked around the kitchen and decided I wasn't hungry, which was weird because usually ate loads of food all the time, but whatever.
I turned on living room light and walked into it, I glanced at the piano in the corner and was instantly reminded of the book Jack had given me. Why had he though? I had been such a bitch. I walked over to the piano and sat down on the stool, I shrugged off my school bag, and hoodie and began to play. I played my favourite song first Arrival of the Birds. I loved the song it was so tense and dramatic and all the quick notes and the rhythm and beat of the song. If you are wondering why I'm not telling them I play the piano, is because I don't play the piano.
I can't read music and I learn all my songs off youtube, I used to have a music a teacher when I started playing about 5 years ago now. But her husband came down with cancer and she stopping teaching. Mum didn't have the money to pay for lessons anymore so I had to make do with youtube.
Which wasn't that bad, I liked it anyway. I hadn't told the class I played the piano because otherwise, like Lucie (a girl who plays the piano in music) the teacher will ask me up to the front of the classroom and give me a sheet of paper full of a bunch of foreign scribbles and chords and I wouldn't be able to play any of them. It sucks, but then again the world sucks, so yeah. Schools a total fucktard.
I stopped playing I pressed one note ( An E note,). Then I stood up.
I middle fingered the room with both hands, don't ask me why I just like to imagine that someone can see me and get the fucking message, sadly they don't though. I slumped down on the ground and picked at bits of the rug.
I felt my pocket for my headphones but then remembered I had taken my hoodie off with them in it.
I groaned and slowly crawled over to the hoodie pulled them out and curled up on the floor listening to Close Your Eyes, by Rhodes.
