"Alex! Don't forget your coat, it's cold outside!" My mom yells from the living room. I roll my eyes, chuckling. She worries too much.
But it is cold outside, so I grab my green hoodie and rush outside, the wind making me pick up speed. I would drive but my car broke down a couple days ago, damn thing.
Luckily, the wind stops and I can walk without shivering to death. Damn Maine weather. It was only early fall yet the temperature still dropped to the high mid 50's. I touched my hand to my cheek, feeling the warmness of it.
I soon entered the cafe. It was relatively new yet I heard so much good things about it. My best friend, John, couldn't stop talking about it. I giggled remembering how he blushed when talking about a girl who worked here.
I went up to the counter, which didn't really have a line, and looked at all the items on the menu. "Hello sir! How may I help you?" A deep but smooth voice came from behind the counter.
When I looked at the guy, my breath hitched. To say he was a god, now that would be an understatement. His hair was dark like the night, and his eyes were as golden as the sun was in the evening.525Please respect copyright.PENANAqNZgrW0v4A
"Uh sir?" I snapped out of my trance and blushed. "Oh, hello. I uh, would like the fall specialty and a red velvet cupcake please." I said, almost out of breath.
He nodded and smiled at me, and I noticed the faint blush of red on his freckled cheeks. Probably from the cold, I thought.
"Name for the order?" he asked. I smiled. "Alexander. Alexander Wright." I said. He chuckled. "I just needed your first name. But thank you." I looked away blushing.
He told me I could take a seat and that my name would be called soon. I took a seat next to the window and looked at the sky. It was close to sunset, which is why the temperatures were dropping.
I looked back to the cashier, who was talking to another customer. The way his mouth moved, where you could see tiny dimples at the edge of his mouth. His eyes crinkled when he smiled and his freckles popped in the orange employee shirt that he wore.
Soon, he called my name. "Alexander!" I got up and collected my coffee, which from the internet was a pumpkin spice blend with cinnamon, puree'd pumpkin, and almond milk.
I took my coffee and cupcake and sat alone at the table. After a few sips and me burning my tongue, I heard the char across from me slide and I looked up to see the cashier guy.
"Hi! I'm Percy." He said. I waved at him and smiled. "Hello. I would tell you my name but I think you know it already." I blushed, remembering how I told him my full name, unintentionally.
He laughed. "Yeah, I do. Can I call you Alex?" He asked. I nodded. I blushed, liking the way he said my name. His deep baritone voice made my cheeks light up like a tomato.
We talked for what seemed like an hour and whenever he talked about something so passionate, my heart would race. I barely knew this man, yet I was already falling.
After a little, I had to go home since it was getting dark. "My shifts over, I could take you home?" I nodded, and soon he was taking me home.
After that day, I kept going back and we became friends. But as I kept getting to know him, I soon fell for him. 525Please respect copyright.PENANAieGlFXqiqI
I fell for the way his eyes lit up as he talked about his job. I fell for how charming and handsome he was. I fell for the way he opened the door for me or how he would never let me walk home.
I fell in love with this man.525Please respect copyright.PENANAqY6YeOLuzD
I walked in the cafe for what seemed like the millionth time. And like usual, Percy always asked the same thing. "The usual, right?" I laughed and nodded, knowing that he already made it for me beforehand.
I always came around sunset, seeing at how beautiful it was. Just like his eyes.
He sat down again, talking to me about how excited he was to pass out candy for the children, knowing how happy it made him. He loved children, and told me he wanted some one day.
Then his phone rang. "Sorry, one second." He told me and I smiled. "No worries."
Then the worse thing happened.
"Hey babygirl, I just got off. I'll be home soon. I'll even bring you back something."
Those words made my heart shatter. All those times I thought he was flirting or being charming were just him being nice. I was wrong.
I got up and threw away my coffee and cupcake, no longer having an appetite.
"Hey, are you leaving?" He asked me, his face full of shock. I never left early, but apparently we don't know everything about each other.
I nodded and put my hands in my hoodie. His face was full of worry but it softened. "Okay. I'll drive you home." I shook my head fast.
I opened my mouth, but tears threatened to spill. "I'll walk home." I croaked out. And rushed out of there, leaving the love of my life confused.
Even though it was freezing, the coldness I felt in my soul was colder and I walked home slowly that day. When I got home, my face was red and tears ran down my cheeks.
My mom rushed to my side and comforted me. I couldn't tell her. Not because I wasn't out, but because I didn't have the energy. And I was embarrased.
My first time falling in love and it was ruined. I should have known but I thought something was there between us.
But I was wrong. So wrong.
Fall was ruined for me and I didn't go back to the cafe again.
I couldn't help Fall-ing in love with a straight man. 525Please respect copyright.PENANAmQ1N94b4Hy
