After the incident with his phone, his mother was worried. She found him at that time, room completely destroyed, laying in the floor 5 meters away from his cracked phone. The same week, she had enrolled him in Anger Management classes.
When she had first told him, he completely refused to go. No way was he going out of his house- or his room, for that matter- when she was probably waiting for him out there. After a conversation his mother and him had, he realized he should have just told her what was going on, instead of shrieking at her. But how could he just tell her?
When the date of his first class rolled around, he wasn’t so resistant. He felt bad for treating his mother like that, and he hadn’t seen nor heard her in almost two days. And she had stopped watching him while she slept. He realized, he actually felt excited to breath fresh air and feel the rays of summertime once again.
As his mother drove him to the place where the Anger Management classes were being held, he tried to calm himself. She wouldn’t be there, he told himself, she would never know I was here.
It was a group Anger Management, held in the elementary school he attended- of course, it was the weekend, so there would be no kids there at the time. It was held in the auditorium, one of his favorite places in the school. He was annoyed to see it had changed slightly, and had been updated with some fancy technology. Even his favorite part, the massive organ, had been ripped out and replaced with a big projector screen.
There were four people, other than him, there. A portly, but kind-looking man that greeted him with a smile- quite obviously the care-taker of the group- A spindly man in his late 20’s with thick-rimmed glasses who was hunched over a DS, an adorable little girl with beautiful curly blonde hair, donning a lacy dress that seemed to suit her perfectly and a boy roughly 2 years younger than him, dressed in bright colours and had a huge black eye.
As the younger boy met his eyes, something stirred within him. Although it was a glance that lasted for a second, his gaze felt dangerous, and those eyes somewhat foreboding. He kind of wanted to punch the kid at that moment.
The care-taker introduced himself, and told everyone to do the same, and tell the group something about themselves and why they were in therapy. The only rule of the talk was that what was said in the group stayed in the group.
The care-taker went first. He confessed to being a former drug dealer who dealt with eating disorders early in his life. Although he didn’t personally go through Anger Management, he told them, he did go through other forms of therapy, and was inspired to help people like them after it.
The glasses guy went next. At first, he verbally lashed out at the caretaker, saying he’d introduced himself thousands of times, and didn’t feel it was necessary to do it again. The care-taker silenced his complaints with a glare and a few well-chosen words.
The man said he was there because he got extreme gamers-rage, and once when he couldn’t figure out a puzzle in his game, he severely injured his mother. He did not say how, and a blanket of ominous silence fell over the group before he talked again. He added that his glasses were fake.
The next to go was the little girl. Except, she revealed that in fact, she was not a little girl, but a little boy who was really just a little girl inside. She said she had punched a guy who called her dress ugly, and that’s why ‘Mommy’s Little Princess’ ended up in this group.
The younger boy went next. He confessed that the black eye he had was the result of accidentally running head-first into a utility pole. He told them that the reason he was there was because he’d often get random spurts of anger out of nowhere, and would scream, destroy things, or tell people disturbing things, depending on what type of anger he was in.
Then he shared. He cut out some of the story, but he did tell them that he currently had a stalker, she had been stressing him out, and he’d gotten extremely anxious because of it. He shared that he liked video games, but was never good at them.
The rest of the ‘class’- he wondered if it could really be called a class, being so casual- was a documentary on the possibility of hereditary rage, and then for the last few minutes before the session was over, they played a game of poker. He lost, of course.
He felt uneasy the whole time. A pair of eyes had been on him the whole time. No matter what he did, no matter how much he shifted uneasily, no matter how much he ignored them, the younger boy, the one with the bruised eye, had his eyes latched on him.
When they had been let out, his new ‘class mates’ went to their respective cars. After a few minutes searching the car park, he drew the conclusion that his mother hadn’t made her way there.
As he grabbed his phone out of his pocket to try to contact her, someone grabbed his arm from behind.
He turned. It was the younger boy who had been focused on him the whole session. His ominous hazel eyes now sparkled under the sunlight, glittering slightly with anger.
“Can I talk to you?”
