HELGA'S POV
"Mom! Where's my lunch bag!?" I shouted as I rummaged through the kitchen for the brown paper bag.
"Helga, dear, it's right here." Miriam, who's also my mom, held up my lunch bag.
I sighed and walked over to her then snatched the bag from her hands and looked through it. I was trying to see if she packed shaving cream and crackers like she always does. It's the first day of my first year in high school and i'm not really excited. I've never really been excited for school. Well, unless Arnold was there but I heard over the summer from Gerald that Arnold probably wasn't going to be attending our high school this year. I was really sad because I've been hoping to show Arnold that I've changed over the summer. I'm not going to be that bullying kid like I was in elementary school. They said that the best way to capture a guy's heart is getting him to notice you and what better way to do that than getting a makeover and changing my attitude? Even though I don't get along with my older sister, Olga, she took me shopping over the summer for all new clothes so I can show them off this year but what's the point of wearing them when Arnold isn't going to be there?
"You're going to wear THAT?" Bob, my dad asked when he walked into the kitchen.
I glanced down at the outfit I was going to wear to school today. It's a pink and purple stripped long sleeve shirt with a pink skirt. My blonde hair was flowing with a few curls and I had a small pink bow in my hair. Even though Arnold isn't going to be at school this year, no use wasting all the clothes I had Olga buy for me. I glanced at my dad and shrugged.
"What's wrong with my clothes?" I asked.
Bob shrugged as he looked me up and down. "It's just...I never thought..."
"I think she looks pretty." Miriam said.
"Are you dressed up because of that Arnold kid?" Bob asked.
Suddenly, my cheeks turned red. "D-dad! No! Besides, Arnold isn't going to my school this year." I said, crossing my arms with a huff.
"That's too bad. Oh well. Hurry up and finish getting ready before you're late." He said then walked out of the kitchen.
I sighed then looked into my lunch bag again. I had a baloney sandwich with chips. Perfect. Now all I need is some juice and i'm set. I rummaged through the fridge and grabbed a bottle of apple juice then slipped it into my bag. I walked out of the kitchen and over to the stairs to pick up my back. I also got a new bag this year. It's pink and it's a messenger. I slipped the strap over my chest then headed out the door.
"I'm leaving!" I called out.
I walked over to the bus stop and waited for the city bus to come by to pick me up.
"Helga, you look beautiful." Phoebe said once she walked up to the bus stop.
I looked down at her and smiled. "Thanks, Phobes."
The bus finally came and me and Phoebe got on it. Once we did, everybody's jaw literately dropped.
"What are you guys staring at?" I asked.
"Um. I think they're staring at you, Helga." Phoebe whispered.
"Oh. Well, cool." I smiled then headed over to an empty seat. Phoebe sat down next to me.
"Gosh, Helga, you look mighty pretty." Stinky said behind me.
"Yeah! You've changed!" Sid commented.
"Hmph. Well, it was about time you changed up your look, Helga." Ronda commented from the other side of the bus.
I sighed. "What is with everybody?"
Phoebe shrugged. "Beats me."
