I've been working on a fantasy world (Luven) since I brainstormed the whole plot for a story when I was in 8th grade. (For reference, I am now in college.) I've been working on this "magic" system in Luven for not-quite-but-almost as long as that, so I'm actually really excited to share this. In any case, let me get started.
As defined by the luvens dictionary, magiscience {MA•ji•shens} is the branch of scientific research that can be performed like magic. The term is derived from the words “magic” and “science,” though these root words rarely appear separate in Luven.1162Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡitiuasbfuz

Magiscience is performed by manipulating the life energy (called vonevene) that flows throughout the world, often taking root in living creatures in what is the soul. (There is still much free vonevene still circulating throughout the world, however.) When a person uses magiscience, they are probably using their own vonevene, which depletes their total lifespan. The natural vonevene-replenishing process is so slow that once a magiscient uses their vonevene, it's nearly impossible for it to be replenished on its own.
However, there is a naturally occurring element in this world, rekene, that is the only conductor of vonevene and can also be used to replenish vonevene faster (commonly through ingestion). Rekene makes the use of magiscience more reliable because conducting vonevene through rekene ensures that the vonevene is concentrated. The way rekene replenishes vonevene is by conducting the free-flowing vonevene into their body. (However, using rekene to replenish vonevene does bring up the possibility and concern of immortality, though no one has properly tested this yet.)
Another way to replenish vonevene is through a special bond, or zerithe. There are three different kinds: naturally (simply called zerithe), familial (called lyzerithe), and through ritual (called vozerithe). A natural zerithe occurs when two people grow close emotionally; essentially, their souls are bonded together, and vonevene flows freely between them. A lyzerithe's strength depends on how closely related the two are. There are multiple rituals throughout Luven that can create a vozerithe, but most of them involve an exchange of blood or sex.
There is a humanoid race called evene {EH•veh•Neh} that has a special affinity for magiscience. While not all awaken their gifts, eveneia can use magiscience without losing vonevene because they are more closely linked to the vonevene (due to a special organ) that freely flows around Luven and can often become sources of vonevene. Eveneia are more alluring to humans, but this is often because of the vonevene they naturally emit, not because of exceptional beauty or anything of the like. However, they do tend to be more physically appealing because of the vonevene they emit.
I have not yet developed how a magiscient is viewed by the law because I'm writing in a time period when magiscience has just become widely discovered and used. I've also rambled on for quite a bit, so I think I'll end here. Thank you for letting me share!
