These are my tips for stories that I made up for myself as an author. Some of you will agree and disagree about them and that's fine, but I digress. Here are my tips for your next story that you may or may not want to follow:
Tip #1: Write a story YOU want to read.
I know that's kinda counterintuitive, BUT it does help you stay motivated to continue your story because you are focusing on your own enjoyment and satisfaction. I can't tell you how many times I've read my own 100+ unfinished stories and wanted to know what's next and then I have this internal conflict about it. Like the conflict would be like:
"No!!! I wanted to know what happened next!"
"Then why didn't you continue writing it?!"
"Because I'm lazy!!!"
"You suck as an author!!"
"I know I do! Huhu!"
Or another way of saying this is like if you are streamer and your chat is like, "Hey Streamer! Hey Streamer!! You're going the wrong way! Hey Streamer! Play another game! Play Fornite!"
No one likes a back seat gamer. Just let the streamer be and let them play the game. If they ask for help, then you can don your inner goose and honk your support away!!!
Tip #2: Don't censor yourself.
Now this tip is dependent on your decisions. If you're a gore, psychological, or even an erotic author, don't censor yourself when writing your favorite scenes or genre. Let loose! Don't know how to explain a scene but you can explain in the most explicit way you can? Then just do it! As an erotic author, I write all my scenes as explicit as possible. I try not to beat around the bush and just get straight into it. Just keep in mind of your demographics and your audiences.
Tip #3: Don't know what scene to write next? Hit a block after finishing the previous scene?
Overcome the block by simply writing what logically happens next. Or if you are lazy, ellipses (. . .) are your best friends. Just keep the amount of ellipses to a minimum.
Tip #4: Are you the type of writer who writes the dialogue first before a scene?
Write your character's conversation with each other and in parentheses ( ) just write a small summary of the scene and come back to it later, edit it and add more details later.
Tip #5: Word count?
If you are obsessed with having a specific word count for your chapters, break them down to smaller parts. Only want to write up to 5000 words per chapter? Chop it to five parts that are 1000 words long. You can make it shorter if you like. Then once you're done, put everything together and go through it and edit away!
Tip #6: Make your chapter title unique to it's story.
You don't always have to use Chapter One, Part One, or Episode One. For example, I've written a story about an idol and instead of my chapters being the boring Chapter One header, I used Song One. I've written a story about six victims and all I did was write their names and a Roman numeral after it as a chapter header. Be creative!
Tip #7: Give other writing style a chance.
Not just prose writings or poems. There are plenty of writing styles to try from. I recommend trying the Cell phone Novel (CPN) writing style. Each chapter is composed of 75 - 100 (fewer than 200 words). Cell phone novels features the use of fragments, conversational, simple and delicate language; cliffhangers and dramatic dialogue emphasized by the unseen or omitted becomes a vital part of the reading experience, allowing deeper meanings and interpretations to unfold. Because of the use of poetic language, mood, emotions and internal thoughts are stimulated in the reader easily. I'll be using my CPN as an example:
A Deceptive Love
Chapter One: Coffee
"Dude, how long have you been in love with her already!?"

That's what he asked him on this dreary night.

Picking up the cup that was just brewed recently,
he chuckles before saying, "Pfft, how long has it been..."

Before taking a sip,
or even a whiff....

That's when it hit him.
-END-
This chapter was only 52 words long, but we're you able to imagine the scene just from those words alone? That's the beauty of CPNs.
Tip #8:Take advantage of white space.
White space is the space between words or sentences. Go back to my CPN example, you see the spacing between some of the sentences? That's called white space. Just like a paragraph, use it when you want change the scene, or create some kind of dramatic pause. Try not to make it too long, but no one's stopping you from doing three or four pages so go try it out!
Thanks for taking the time to read my tips. You don't have to use or follow them, but knowing that you've been given more ideas and options to expand your story making abilities is enough for me. Also, I feel like most of my tips don't really relate to stories and more ended up like advices for all of you. If you need clarification on some of these tips, I'll gladly entertain your question if you have any! Happy writing!
