On Obito’s comment regarding SasuKarin
Since there have been posts appearing that questions Obito’s line in regards with Karin being Sasuke’s “favorite”, I decided to make one too. It’s a translation, though.
This is the actual Japanese line:
あの女。。。連れてきて正解だった。。。役に立つ。わざわざサスケが選んだお気に入りなだけはある
These are the direct translations for every kanji (which are actually onyomi and kunyomi, but never mind the technicalities) and words:
I separated them to distinguish the actual words.
あ の = a no = that
女 = onna = woman / female
連 れ て = tsu re te = take
き て = ki te = come
正 解 = seikai = right / correct
だっ た = data / datta = was (or something like that, this is a particle)
役 に 立 つ = yakunitatsu = to be useful / to be helpful
わ ざ わ ざ = wazawaza = specially / specifically (can be used interchangeably since they’re synonymous)
サ ス ケ = Sasuke = I believe everybody knows this
が = ga = no English counterpart (a particle: Indicates the subject of a sentence)
選 ん だ = eranda = chose
な = na = no particular meaning in this context (it’s somehow like an expression when speaking like “ne…”)
お 気 に 入 り = o ki ni iru ri = favorite / liked
だ け = dake = as…as / the more…the more / not only…but also (a particle with various uses aside from this)
は = can be read as ha or wa = particle
あ る = a ru = particle
This is the word in question that I believe should not even be debatable (if only proper translations are made):
お気に入り = okiniiruri (o ki ni iru ri)
The root word is 気に入 “kiniiru” (ki ni iru) which means “to be pleased with” or “to be fond of.”
Now when used in a sentence, japanese words take a different form according to the tense and how they are used, they are then attached with particles. It’s kind of hard to explain, just that it’s somehow similar with the Spanish conjugation of verbs.
So kiniiru becomes “okiniiruri” which means “favorite” or “liked,” but favorite is the accurate one. It’s explicitly indicated to be the exact translation. Here are examples and proofs:

The other words there have a different onyomi and kunyomi with the kanji 気 (ki). Note that kanji can have different meanings and can be read differently according to the coinciding character that will form onyomi (nouns) and kunyomi (verbs and adjectives).
So, with that let’s now take into consideration the FACT that お気に入り (OKINIIRURI) means FAVORITE.
Now, on with the translation:
[Before everything else I’d like to note that 連れて tsurete (take) and きて kite (come) put together as 連れてきて tsuretekite becomes “bring”.]
あの女 (ano onna) (that woman)。。。連れてきて (tsuretekite) (bring) 正解 (seikai) (right/correct) だった (data/datta) 。。。役に立つ (yakunitatsu) (useful/helpful)。
わざわざ (wazawaza) (specially/specifically) サスケ (Sasuke) が (ga) 選んだ (eranda) (chose) お気に入り (okiniiruri) (favorite) な (na) だけ (dake) (as…as / the more…the more / not only…but also) はある (ha/wa, aru)。
Now, let’s pick out the English words.
that woman…bring right/correct…useful/helpful。
specially/specifically Sasuke chose favorite as…as/the more…the more/not only…but also。
And then let’s select which of the words that has multiple meanings should we use ACCORDING TO CONTEXT:
Between right and correct, right is more appropriate.
Because Obito is the one speaking, it is more accurate to take into consideration the kind of character that he is (same as with other characters), so in between useful and helpful, useful is something that Obito would probably use.
The first sentence becomes:
That woman bring right…useful.
Not quite correct yet, yeah?
On to the second sentence:
This one is rather more complicated because of the particle.
I’d ignore the particle for now, so, the second sentence becomes:
Specifically Sasuke chose favorite….
Leaving the particle aside, I’ll arrange and edit the sentence first in grammatically correct understandable English (without adding non-essential words or embellishing it so as to not ruin the context itself) to figure out how the meaning of the particle can be put into the sentence.
That woman…it was right to bring her along…she’s useful.
So, to make the sentence or dialogue flow naturally, I’ll use the not only that…but also for the particle.
Not only that, but Sasuke has also specifically chosen her as his favorite.
or
Not only that, but Sasuke has also specifically chosen her as favorite.
Because some might contest the “his” word, although I do believe putting the word “his” is more correct in terms of grammar.
It’s the same either way.
So, in conclusion, I think this is how that sentence goes:
あの女。。。連れてきて正解だった。。。役に立つ。わざわざサスケが選んだお気に入りなだけはある。
Ano onna。。。tsuretekite seikai datta。。。yakunitatsu。 Wazawaza Sasuke ga eranda okiniiruri na dake wa aru。
That woman。。。it was right to bring her along。。。she’s useful。 Not only that, but Sasuke has also specifically chosen her as his favorite。
or
That woman。。。it was right to bring her along。。。she’s useful。 Not only that, but Sasuke has also specially chose her as his favorite。
or should we eliminate “also”

Which has a nicer ring to it?
On a side note this is the Google Translate result:

Funny that even Google Translate seems to agree that the word is favorite and that Karin is Sasuke’s favorite.
I hope this helps clear things up, but then again, there are some people who don’t like to see the truth. Anyway, maybe I should also do this to Karin’s infamous masochistic line.
