I stretch and yawn as mom comes in my room and tells me to get ready.
"What for?" I mumble.
"We're going somewhere."
"Where are we going?"
"New York."
I groan as she walks away.
Oh, I live in Tennessee, by the way. In Jackson. I live on Pinewood Drive. And as you can see, I don't like going out places. Especially to other states. Yeah, yeah. I know. We'd have to go on a plane. But, problem is, I've never been on a plane. Never. Even though I'm sixteen going on seventeen on July 21st of this year.
I groan again and get up. I pull on the first outfit I find and go to the kitchen. I open the fridge and look around.285Please respect copyright.PENANAWEn8rsLgTd
"Mom, we need more orange juice!"
She comes into the kitchen as I pull out a carton of orange juice and guzzle the rest of it down.
"Really, Nikkindra? Did you have to do that?"285Please respect copyright.PENANAG6JIYv3Qig
"Uhm, yes, I did. And plus," I say as I walk to the garbage can, "I was really thirsty." I throw the orange carton away and go over to the cupboard. I pull out a bag of chocolate donuts and bit into one. I spit it back into the bag and gag. "Ew, these are stale." I throw the donuts away and sit down at the table. I pull out my phone and scroll through Facebook.
"Sweetie, you need to pack."
"I don't know how much to pack."
"You didn't ask. But you need to pack for a week."
"What? A week? Mom!" I slump in the chair and groan.
"We don't have all day, young lady."
"Fine," I huff and get up. I go to my bedroom and pull out my backpack. I dump everything onto the floor and pack everything I'll need. I stuff in my last pair of pants and grab my earbuds.285Please respect copyright.PENANAVIAN25yCPv
I go back to the kitchen and throw my backpack on the floor. Mom looks down at my bag and sighs.
"Well, come on. Let's go."285Please respect copyright.PENANA88nIuvggOd

About an hour and a half later, Mom pulls into the parking lot of the Memphis International Airport. She finds a parking space and puts the car in park. She shuts off the engine and we head inside the airport. We go through the usual routine and then get on the plane.
We sit on the plane for about thirty minutes before taking off.
New York City, here we come.
