CHAPTER 9
I threw down my magnifying glass and flashlight and ran down to the entrance of the mansion.
“Fiona! The duct tapes!” Vivienne screamed when I got to the door.
Of course! In a hurry to find out what had happened in the mansion, I totally forgot about the police tapes.
Screw it!
“My friend is in danger” I muttered as I ran into the building.
‘Iris!” I screamed at the top of my lungs. “Where are you?”
“Ugh!” That was my voice. Apparently, I had bumped into somebody in the dark sitting room. Silly me.
Oh... wait! I didn’t have any flashlight.
“The hell?” A familiar voice replied. I heard a click and instantly, a huge ray of light came streaming on my face.
“Where is Iris?” Evelyn asked.
“How am I supposed to know?” I replied trying to prevent the light from getting me blind “she was with you all along.”
“I was in the basement and I heard her scream.” Evelyn answered.
“Same!” I shot back “and will you quit doing that? You are trying to get me blind or something?”
We heard footstep and we turned and saw Vivienne running in breathlessly. And get this… she took in her flashlight. How smart. *rolling eyes*
“What happened to Iris?” viv asked.
“I don’t know.” I said as I stood up and scanned the dark mansion for an answer.
“We aren’t going to find her by standing here guys,” Vivienne reasoned “let’s split up. So…”
“No way, it’s this whole splitting up thing that got us into this mess in the first place.”
“Arghhhhhh!”
Another scream.
“Iris!” we all screamed at ones.
“It sounds like it’s from the study.” I screamed as I ran up the stairs frantically.
“This is my entire fault.” I thought as tears flowed down my eyelids “What is something dangerous has happened to her? What if she dies? Oh... Iris”
I burst through the study door and stumbled through the dark room desperately.
“The light switch!” my brain screamed.
I began groping along the wall to feel for the light switch. Suddenly, my fingers felt the cold metal switch. “Finally!” I thought. Then I clicked it.
Nothing.
Just darkness.
I heard a groan on the floor a few feet from me.
“Iris! Is that you?” I asked as I tried making my way to her through the darkness. “Viv, Evelyn, Iris is here! I need light!”
Rays of light flooded into the room as they ran in. I never felt so happy to see light before. When I saw what I saw, I could only stare in shock as tears ran down my eyes. Iris was sprawled on the floor, her eyes opened but looked dead and her lips parted but no sounds came from them. I watched as my friends ran to meet her screaming in anxiety. I did what a sensible girl would do. I took out my phone, and with my eyes still on Iris, watching the blood gush out from her head, I called my dad.
Suddenly, I began to feel dizzy. The world seemed as if it was turning endlessly. I felt queasy.
“Fiona, Fiona! Hello?” I heard my dad speak through the phone.
“Dad!” I managed to say “Come and save us.”
Then I felt darkness engulf me.
