“Anyways, I gotta go to bed. See you tomorrow.”
Before I went to bed, I tried calling mom but there was no answer so I sent a voice note instead.
Hey mom, hope you’re doing fine. I just wanted to check in on you and Julie. Take care of yourself, don’t stress too much and if you need anything or any help, call me. I paused. Pls. Love you, bye.

“No, but-”
“Just do your damn job and get out of my business.”
I heard the side conversation as i was cleaning.
“I thought you should know that Lorenzo has a new spy out.”
“How so?”
“Someone leaked information about the goods and shit. It was easy to handle but itcould have been worse.”
“Any footage from the CCTV at the warehouse?”
“No. Whoever is doing this is really skilled and will be hard to catch.”
“Well then, we gotta be a step ahead. Set a meeting with Chris”
“Yes sir.”
I slipped into a corner as the men came out and went downstairs. What had Chris been involved with all these years and why did I not know?
I quickly texted Alex that there would be a slight change of plans.
He called.
“What do you mean there will be a change of plans. Lorenzo is already pissed as it is and don’t forget he gave you a deadline. You have five freaking days left.”
“Calm down before you go all bozo on me. Dante will be expecting us there tonight so if we show up, our cover will be blown. We need to also be a step ahead of them and think outside the box. We can’t show up or this whole mission will be ruined and we will rot in jail.”
“So what happens to Lorenzo?”
“I don’t give two shits about the motherfricker he can deal with himself but this cannot fail or we are all done for. I can get everything we need tonight so don’t worry about it. Notify the team about the operation.”
“Roger”
“I returned back to my station with a huge feeling of guilt in my gut.”
What if the mission failed? What will happen to me and my family? What happens to Alex and every other person?
I pushed all of those thoughts at the back of my mind. My main goal was to succeed.
I could tell Celine noticed that I was not okay but she ignored it. She was already suspicious that I was up to something which made my job a bit harder.
Celine had already served breakfast so I helped to clear up the table.
After that, Mrs. Smith told us that we had a break and Dante won’t be here for the next week. She also said she needed someone to clean his office daily before he arrived and I volunteered to do it.
I dusted the tables and shelves but noticed a strange looking book and the top of the shelf.
I couldn’t reach it so I left it in the back of my mind. I also noticed that none of Dante’s information was in his study. I wondered if there was somewhere else he kept them.
Going downstairs, Mrs Smith told me that I would be free for the day and that I could go home. I took the opportunity. I stayed at home for a few hours while hacking into the warehouse CCTV.
I went in with my signature look. Black crop top, black shorts and black jacket.
“Excuse me, I have a meeting with the CEO.”
“Name”
“Mariah” I handed him a fake ID.
“You’re all good.”
I took the elevator till the third floor. I looked up and spotted Matteo in the distance.
He was supposed to be with Dante on the business trip.
He was speaking to a man that looked about his age. I went in his opposite direction to the main office. It was spacious but boring. I had few decorations, some similar to the ones in Dante’s office at home.
I searched the drawers for a neon green file. Alex said it should be in the office.
I spotted it in the corner of my eye on a coffee table at the end of the room. I placed it into my handbag and left the room. I put on my glasses in case someone recognized me and left the building.
