Madeline
Madeline frantically grabbed her phone and dialed the Lebanon Police with tense fingers. "Lebanon Police Department", the voice said flatly
"Hello! P-please, my sister, she's going to commit suicide and I need to find her!", Madeline sobbed.
"Woah, woah, calm down ma'am, when was the last time you saw your sister?", the police man asked, sympathetically
"I-", she stammered, "I saw her about an hour ago...at the Cobblestone Eatery and Drinker"
"Okay, ma'am, we are sending troops; you can get off the line now", he instructed. Madeline ended the call and slumped into the armchair. Tears streamed down her face as she thought of where her sister could be, whether she was alive or not, and what she could possibly be thinking right now. Madeline took a deep breath in and tried to slow her heartbeat. After a few minutes, Madeline had calmed down and looked back down at her phone. She thought of texting her sister and asking where she was, but she knew that she would receive no response. So, instead, she hopped in her Honda and drove to Cobblestone Eatery and Drinker.
Once Madeline arrived at the Cobblestone Eatery and Drinker, she ran out to be stopped by a cop. "Ma'am this area is off limits, I'm afraid you'll have to leave", he demanded. Instead of listening to the cop, Madeline yelled at the cop.
"Excuse me?!", she screamed, "do you have any idea who's sister might die today?!"
Tears pricked her eyes as she continued to shout. "Mine!", she yelled, "my sister might die today and you have no idea what that is like!"
A sob escaped Madeline after her rant and the cop merely looked down at her. "I'm sorry ma'am, I know how hard this must be, but I still can't let you through". After that. he brushed her away and she went back to her car, defeated. Madeline put her head in her hands and continued to sob mournfully.
Thoughts filled Madeline's head as she thought of her sister. Soon-to-be sad memories rained down. She thought of the conversation she had with her sister just an hour before. It seemed like so long ago.
---
"Hey Madeline, what is one place you want to go?", Clare asked randomly
"I don't know, probably Europe", she replied, sipping on her unsweetened iced tea. Clare smiled at her response.
"I'd probably want to go to Kentucky", she said, looking down at her cheeseburger.
"Kentucky?", she questioned, looking up from her tea, "why Kentucky?"
"It's quite lonely there, I feel like it'd be a peaceful place to be", she said, smiling slightly
---
Madeline jerked her head up from the steering wheel that she was gripping tightly. 'What if that's where she went?', Madeline thought. A smile, that looked almost psychotic creeped up on her face. She didn't hesitate a moment longer. Madeline forced the car into drive and jammed her foot on the gas pedal. 'Goodbye Illinois, I have a sister to go save', she thought to herself as she sped down the highway.
Clare
Clare parked her car along the highway, the sun beat down on her as she raised her eyes to the sky. The sun continued to stare down at her as she went into the passenger seat of her car. She opened the glove compartment and grabbed the gun that sat among the manuals and various papers inside. The gun felt cold in her sweaty hand as she exited the car.
Clare walked into the middle of the street and held the gun to her head. But, she didn't pull the trigger right away. Instead, she thought of her sister and what she could possibly be doing right now. She imagined her on the couch asleep or maybe watching some TV. Tears pricked her eyes as she thought of her sister and how she would never see her again. But, missing one person wasn't going to stop her from doing what was right. She knew that the world would be better off without her, her sister included, and that was all that mattered.
Clare pulled the trigger.
Madeline
Police surrounded a specific spot on the highway and Madeline's heart sank into her shoes. She pulled over and rushed out of her car to the bordered area. A cop tried to stop her from breaching the barriers, but she merely pushed past him and sprinted to the black body bag in the middle of the road. Suddenly, an arm grabbed her from behind, she jerked her head back to be face to face with the cop she pushed past.
Another cop rushed in, "Hold on, she's her sister, don't cuff her". Within seconds, the grip loosened around her arm. Tears streamed down Madeline's eyes as she realized that her sister was truly in the body bag. A hand met her back; she turned to face the cop who saved her from spending the night in jail. He sighed, looking down at the body bag, "I'm sorry ma'am, but your sister has passed away...". Tears continued to flow as Madeline's vision blurred, "I'm sorry for your loss...", he said sympathetically.
The officer walked away as she sat there contemplating everything. What could Clare have been thinking in her final moments? Did she have any regrets? Was she thinking of me before she pulled the trigger? Several more similar questions filled Madeline's mind until she was drowning in sorrow. Clare's smile flashed in her mind. Was she always faking that smile? Or is this something that only recently happened? Madeline continued to question and blame herself for her sister's death and she couldn't get over the fact that she no longer had the person she loved. She no longer had someone to talk to over brunch. She no longer had someone to vent to when she was angry. She no longer had somebody to gossip to when there was drama. She no longer had a sister.259Please respect copyright.PENANAki5hbDLZ0n
